The first case of combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency-1 due to a GFM1 mutation in the Serbian population: a case report and literature review
CONCLUSIONS: To the best of our knowledge, 28 cases of COXPD1 disease caused by mutations in the GFM1 gene have been described in the literature. COXPD1 should be considered due to symptoms and signs which begin during intrauterine life or at birth. Signs of impaired energy metabolism should indicate that the disease is in the group of metabolic encephalopathies.PMID:38204316 | DOI:10.24953/turkjped.2022.1082 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Pediatrics)

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 314: Bioprospecting of Selected Species of Polypore Fungi from the Western Balkans
vana Vunduk Growing mushrooms means meeting challenges while aiming for sustainability and circularity. Wherever the producer is located, commercial strains are the same originating from several producers. Customized strains adapted to local conditions are urgently needed. Before introducing new species to the strain development pipeline, the chemical characterization and biological activity of wild ones need to be assessed. Accordingly, the mycoceutical potential of five polypore mushroom species from Serbia was evaluated including: secondary metabolite composition, oxidative damage prevention, anti-tyrosinase, and an...

Predicting the survival probability of functional neuroendocrine tumors treated with peptide receptor radionuclide therapy: Serbian experience
ConclusionThe study’s results suggest that tumor functionality, and certain biomarkers may serve as prognostic survival indicators for patients with NETs undergoing PRRT. The findings can potentially help to identify patients who are at higher risk of disease progression and tailor treatment strategies accordingly. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Intercomparison and constancy check of brachytherapy well-type chambers as a means to improve the quality of measurements in Serbia
Appl Radiat Isot. 2023 Dec 23;205:111160. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2023.111160. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSource strength measurements are of critical importance for brachytherapy and are often performed in hospitals using well-type chambers. Quality assurance and quality control procedures should be implemented, but that may prove difficult in some hospitals due to the lack of equipment or metrological support. A study was conducted to investigate the status of the measurement equipment in Serbian hospitals and to organize an intercomparison campaign using a hospital 192Ir source. All the hospitals were able to measure...

The role of tapentadol in cancer pain pharmacotherapy in patients with metastatic malignant disease
CONCLUSIONS: Tapentadol prolonged-release formulation is an effective pharmacotherapy solution, along with palliative radiotherapy, for pain relief in patients with skeletal metastatic breast cancer. Palliative radiotherapy in these patients does not provide adequate neuropathic pain component relief.PMID:38164873 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202312_34809 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)
