A case study of unavoidable accidents of autonomous vehicles
Conclusions: Collision accidents will still occur even with perfect autonomous driving technology. We used the prospective method to investigate scenarios and characteristics of unavoidable accidents of autonomous vehicles. The time-limit type and the space-limit type were identified as two categories of unavoidable accidents. For the time-limit unavoidable accidents, the time from perceiving hazard to collision is typically not longer than 1.5s. The characteristics of unavoidable accidents and the estimated pre-crash warning time can provide some reference for establishing future occupant protection strategies. This study...

Red cell distribution width-a potential prognostic indicator for colorectal cancer patients after radical resection in China
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings demonstrate that preoperative RDW may represent a simple and powerful prognostic factor for CRC patients after radical resection. Integrating RDW into clinical practice may better inform the prognosis and optimize therapeutic approaches for patients with CRC.PMID:37720452 | PMC:PMC10502564 | DOI:10.21037/jgo-23-54

< em > IL1RL1 < /em > polymorphisms rs12479210 and rs1420101 are associated with increased lung cancer risk in the Chinese Han population
Conclusion: Our findings suggest that IL1RL1 genetic variants (rs12479210 and rs1420101) are associated with an increased lung cancer risk in the Chinese Han population. These risk variants may serve as biomarkers for the prevention and treatment of lung cancer.PMID:37719702 | PMC:PMC10500304 | DOI:10.3389/fgene.2023.1183528

Identification of quality markers for < em > Cyanotis arachnoidea < /em > and analysis of its physiological mechanism based on chemical pattern recognition, network pharmacology, and experimental validation
In this study, ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) fingerprint combined with chemical pattern recognition were performed, and four differential components were screened out as quality markers, including 20-Hydroxyecdysone, 3-O-acetyl-20-hydroxyecdysone, Ajugasterone C, and 2-O-acetyl-20-hydroxyecdysone. Network pharmacology analysis revealed 107 therapeutic target genes of Cyanotis arachnoidea in DM treatment, and the key targets were Akt1, TNF, IL-6, MAPK3, and JUN. The hypoglycemic mode of action of Cyanotis arachnoidea may be mediated by tumor necrosis factor (TNF) signaling, cancer, insulin resistance,...

An integrated data- and theory-driven crash severity model
Accid Anal Prev. 2023 Sep 16;193:107282. doi: 10.1016/j.aap.2023.107282. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFor crash severity modeling, researchers typically view theory-driven models and data-driven models as different or even conflicting approaches. The reason is that the machine-learning models offer good predictability but weak interpretability, while the latter has robust interpretability but moderate predictability. In order to alleviate the tension between them, this study proposes an integrated data- and theory-driven crash-severity model, known as Embedded Fusion model based on Text Vector Representations (TVR-EF), by...

Metagenomics reveals the effects of glyphosate on soil microbial communities and functional profiles of C and P cycling in the competitive vegetation control process of Chinese fir plantation
In this study, shotgun metagenomic sequencing was used to determine the abundance and diversity of microbial communities and functional genes after foliar application of glyphosate for 1, 2, 3 and 4 months in a Chinese fir plantation. The results showed that glyphosate increased the copy numbers (qPCR) of 16s rRNA gene for 16.9%, improved the bacterial diversity (Shannon index) and complexity of bacterial co-occurrence network, and changed the abundances of some bacterial and fungal taxa, but had no effects on ITS gene copy numbers, fungal Shannon index, and bacterial and fungal communities (PCoA). Glyphosate application s...

Potential selection for lipid kinase activity and spermatogenesis in Henan native pig breeds and growth shaping by introgression of European genes
CONCLUSIONS: Admixture of North China, East China and foreign pigs contributed to high genetic diversity of Henan local pigs. Ontology terms associated with lipid kinase activity and spermatogenesis and growth shaping by introgression of European genes in Henan pigs were identified through selective sweep analyses.PMID:37723431 | DOI:10.1186/s12711-023-00841-y

The mechanism of Plantaginis Semen in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy based on network pharmacology and molecular docking technology
CONCLUSION: PS can have the treatment on DN through CASP3. Quercetin, as one of the nine active ingredients, can be bounded to CASP3 to inhibit apoptosis in DN. PS can also take action on DN probably through many pathways. The role of PS on DN through other pathways still needs to be further elaborated.PMID:37718520 | DOI:10.2174/1871530323666230915100355

Air nanobubble water improves plant uptake and tolerance toward cadmium in phytoremediation
This study found that diluted air NBs (25% concentration) boosted cadmium uptake of A. philoxeroides by 17.39%. They also enhanced growth (25-50%) and photosynthetic pigments (10-20%) even at low cadmium levels (0.1 mM). Furthermore, the incorporation of 25% air NBs has been demonstrated to significantly amplify the performance of key antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase and catalase, alongside heightened levels of crucial antioxidants such as malondialdehyde. This heightened activity of antioxidant defenses offers a compelling explanation for the potential amelioration of cadmium toxicity and concurrent enhan...

Prevalence and associated factors of hyperuricemia among Chinese patients with diabetes: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Hyperuricemia is highly prevalent in patients with diabetes, especially in males. In addition to traditionally associated factors, fenofibrate and SGLT-2 inhibitors were also associated with the risk of hyperuricemia.REGISTRATION: The study protocol was registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (http://www.chictr.org.cn/), and the registration number was ChiCTR 2100042742.PMID:37719790 | PMC:PMC10501065 | DOI:10.1177/20420188231198620

Recent progress in epidemiology, clinical features, and therapy of multiple sclerosis in China
Ther Adv Neurol Disord. 2023 Sep 15;16:17562864231193816. doi: 10.1177/17562864231193816. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTMultiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating disease of the central nervous system characterized by inflammation, demyelination, and neurodegeneration. It mainly affects young adults, imposing a heavy burden on families and society. The epidemiology, clinical features, and management of MS are distinct among different countries. Although MS is a rare disease in China, there are 1.4 billion people in China, so the total number of MS patients is not small. Because of the lack of specific diagnostic biomarkers for ...
