Blood-based protein biomarkers and red blood cell aggregation in pancreatic cancer
CONCLUSION: This study indicated that there are significant differences in blood-based biomarkers for differentiating between PDAC and inflammatory tumours of the pancreas. We also confirmed that PDAC is associated with the excessive aggregation of RBCs.PMID:37718785 | DOI:10.3233/CH-231814

Controversies in the surgical management of esophageal adenocarcinoma
J Gastrointest Oncol. 2023 Aug 31;14(4):1919-1926. doi: 10.21037/jgo-22-713. Epub 2023 Aug 30.ABSTRACTThe incidence of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) has risen dramatically over the last decade. Over this same period, our understanding and treatments have been revolutionized. Just over a decade ago, the majority of patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer went directly to surgery and our overall survival was bleak. Our current strategy for locally advanced esophageal adenocarcinoma is a multi-disciplinary approach. This approach consists of chemotherapy plus or minus radiation followed by surgical resection follow...

Machine learning developed a programmed cell death signature for predicting prognosis and immunotherapy benefits in lung adenocarcinoma
CONCLUSION: Our study developed a novel CDS for LUAD. The CDS served as an indicator for predicting the prognosis and immunotherapy benefits of LAUD patients.PMID:37722290 | DOI:10.1016/j.tranon.2023.101784

Silencing lncRNA EZR ‑AS1 induces apoptosis and attenuates the malignant properties of lung adenocarcinoma cells
This study aimed to investigate the effect of silencing long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) EZR‑AS1 on the biological behaviors of lung adenocarcinoma (ADC) cells. EZR‑AS1 expression levels in lung ADC tissues and cells, as well as in adjacent non-cancerous tissues, were determined using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). EZR‑AS1 was knocked down in two lung ADC cell lines using small interfering RNA specific for EZR‑AS1 (siEZR‑AS1). Proliferation, migration, and apoptosis of EZR‑AS1-knockdown cells were assessed using the CCK-8 viability assay, flow cytometry, or wound healing exp...

NAP1L5 facilitates pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma progression via TRIM29-mediated ubiquitination of PHLPP1
Biochem Pharmacol. 2023 Sep 15:115811. doi: 10.1016/j.bcp.2023.115811. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is considered one of the most aggressive solid tumours in humans. Despite its high mortality rate, effective targeted therapeutic strategies remain limited due to incomplete understanding of the underlying biological mechanisms. The NAP1L gene family has been implicated in the development and progression of various human tumours. However, the specific function and role of NAP1L5 (nucleosome assembly protein-like 5) in PDAC have not been fully elucidated. Therefore, in this study, we a...

Cucurbitacin C suppresses the progression of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma via inhibition of the cGMP-PKG-VASP axis
Biochem Pharmacol. 2023 Sep 15:115810. doi: 10.1016/j.bcp.2023.115810. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains one of the most devastating diseases; it has a considerably poor prognosis and may become the second most lethal malignancy in the next 10 years. Chemotherapeutic resistance is common in PDAC; thus, it is necessary to exploit effective alternative drugs. In recent years, traditional folk medicines and their extracts have shown great potential in cancer treatment. The seed of Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standl. is a traditional medicine in Asia. Because of its analgesic effect...

RNF152 Suppresses Fatty Acid Oxidation and Metastasis of Lung Adenocarcinoma by Inhibiting IRAK1-Mediated AKR1B10 Expression
This study aimed to identify the role of ring finger protein 152 (RNF152) in LUAD. RNF152 was down-regulated in LUAD, and low RNF152 expression correlated with a poor prognosis in LUAD patients. RNF152 overexpression inhibited the proliferation and malignant phenotype of LUAD cells, whereas RNF152 knockdown exerted an opposite effect. Tumor cells overexpressing RNF152 showed less fatty acid oxidation compared with control cells, whereas RNF152 knockdown induced fatty acid uptake and oxidation. Further analysis revealed the binding reaction between RNF152 and interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase 1 (IRAK1). RNF152 reduce...
