E-108 Endovascular treatment of patients with acute ischemic stroke due to underlying arterial dissection: a nationwide analysis
ConclusionsDespite a similar prevalence among patients admitted for AIS, CA dissections are associated with a higher rate of endovascular intervention and poorer short-term outcomes compared to VA dissections. This study provides essential epidemiologic and outcome data for the cerebrovascular neurosurgeon.Abstract E-108 Table 1Comparison of clinical characteristics and outcomes among patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke due to carotid or vertebral artery dissections Characteristic Vertebral Artery Dissection, N = 2,562 Carotid Artery Dissection, N = 2,789 p-value1 Age (years), Mean (SD) 53 (17) 57 (17) <0.00...

China stroke surveillance report 2021
AbstractSince 2015, stroke has become the leading cause of death and disability in China, posing a significant threat to the health of its citizens as a major chronic non-communicable disease. According to the China Stroke High-risk Population Screening and Intervention Program, an estimated 17.8 million [95% confidence interval (CI) 17.6 –18.0 million] adults in China had experienced a stroke in 2020, with 3.4 million (95% CI 3.3–3.5 million) experiencing their first-ever stroke and another 2.3 million (95% CI 2.2–2.4 million) dying as a result. Additionally, approximately 12.5% (95% CI 12.4–12.5%) of stroke survi...

Specificity and sensitivity of the SeLECT score in predicting late seizures in patients undergoing intravenous thrombolytic treatment and the effect of diabetes mellitus and leukoaraiosis
CONCLUSION: We found that DM was an independent risk factor for late seizures after stroke in a patient group receiving thrombolytic therapy, and late seizures after stroke were less frequent in patients with leukoaraiosis.PMID:37059430 | DOI:10.1055/s-0043-1767764

Risk factor identification and prediction models for prolonged length of stay in hospital after acute ischemic stroke using artificial neural networks
ConclusionThe artificial neural network model achieved adequate discriminative power for predicting prolonged length of stay after acute ischemic stroke and identified crucial factors associated with a prolonged hospital stay. The proposed model can assist in clinically assessing the risk of prolonged hospitalization, informing decision-making, and developing individualized medical care plans for patients with acute ischemic stroke.

The potential role of insulin resistance in predicting outcome from intravenous thrombolytic therapy
ConclusionInsulin resistance and metabolic syndrome were associated with worse functional outcomes in non-diabetic stroke patients after receiving rt-PA.

Study on the Baseline Factors and Platelet Indices That Predict Outcome of Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients after Thrombolytic Therapy
Conclusions: Overall, lower NIHSS and MPV levels on admission were predictors of good functional outcomes in patients with AIS after undergoing thrombolytic therapy. The correlations between MPV, PDW, and PLR may be helpful to evaluate prognosis in stroke patients and deserve further exploration.Cerebrovasc Dis

28675 A case of systemic amyloidosis diagnosed by dermatologic consult
A 49-year-old male with PMH of hypertension and diabetes was admitted to the neurology ICU following thrombolytic therapy for left MCA occlusive thrombus. Dermatology was consulted for desquamation of the lower lip, lateral tongue, and bruising of the eyelid and cheeks. Patient originally presented to outside hospital with bilateral lower extremity swelling and shortness of breath. BNP and troponins were elevated, and ACS protocol was initiated. He had stroke-like symptoms while at the outside facility and CT showed MCA occlusive thrombus.

Correlation between Immune-Inflammatory Markers and Clinical Features in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Immune-inflammatory markers dynamically increased from symptom onset of acute ischemic stroke in patients eligible for thrombolytic therapy. Higher levels of immune-inflammatory markers suggest more in-hospital complications and unfavorable short-term outcomes.PMID:34018169
