Risk factors for intracerebral hemorrhage in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis
ConclusionHigher systolic BP and abnormal iPTH metabolism might be associated with ICH in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Comprehensive control of hypertension and iPTH may be a fundamental preventive strategy for ICH in these patients.

Clinical Features and Risk Factors of Mortality in Patients with Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate that PRES could be considered as a sign of a very high-risk patient. Comparison of Clevidipine and Nicardipine for Acute Blood Pressure Reduction in Hemorrhagic Stroke
ConclusionsIn patients with hemorrhagic stroke, nicardipine appeared to have similar efficacy as clevidipine in SBP reduction, with a more likely reduction of rebound hypertension and drug cost. This retrospective study was underpowered, which may limit these implications. Further prospective studies are warranted to confirm these results.

Association of Dyskalemias with Ischemic Stroke in Advanced Chronic Kidney Disease Patients Transitioning to Dialysis
Conclusion: In patients with advanced CKD, hypokalemia (chronic exposure) was associated with a higher risk of ischemic stroke, whereas hyperkalemia (acute exposure) was associated with a lower risk of ischemic stroke. Association of Cognitive Function Screening Results with Adherence and Performance in a Pedometer-Based Intervention
Conclusion: Participants with worse results on cognitive function screening had worse adherence and derived less benefit from this pedometer-based intervention. Future exercise interventions should be developed incorporating methods to address cognitive impairment, for example, by including caregivers when planning such interventions.Am J Nephrol

The family of a 47-year-old man with end stage renal failure on hemodialysis brought him to the emergency room. He had missed 3 sessions of dialysis due to concerns for COVID-19 precautions. He had developed increasing confusion and generalized weakness. Examination showed altered mental status and disorientation to date and place. He had bilateral gaze evoked nystagmus and asterixis in his upper extremities. His lab work showed Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) of 75 mg/dL and Creatinine of 6.2 mg/dL. His EEG showed generalized triphasic waves (Fig. 1).

Sustained Low-Efficiency Dialysis is Associated with Worsening Cerebral Edema and Outcomes in Intracerebral Hemorrhage
ConclusionsSLED treatment in ICH patients with CKD was associated with significant increase in rate and frequency of PHE expansion. Absolute increase in PHE during 48-h post-ICH was associated with increased mortality and worse functional outcomes. Further prospective and multicenter evaluation is needed to differentiate the effects of RRT on hematoma dynamics and patient outcomes from those attributed to CKD.

Patients with renal failure have extremely high cardiovascular risk; in dialysis patients the risk of stroke is increased approximately 10-fold over that in the general population. High White Blood Cell Count Is a Risk Factor for Contrast-Induced Nephropathy following Mechanical Thrombectomy for Acute Ischemic Stroke

An unusual combination of neurological manifestations and sudden vision loss in a child with familial hyperphosphatemic tumoral calcinosis
We report a child with hyperphosphatemia who presented with multiple episodes of neurologic dysfunction involving lower motor neuron facial nerve palsy along with sequential visual loss. He also had an episode of stroke. There was an extensive metastatic calcification of soft tissue and vasculature. Hyperphosphatemia with normal serum alkaline phosphatase, calcium, parathyroid hormone, and renal function was noted.
