Gut Microbiota-Derived Short-Chain Fatty Acids Promote Post-Stroke Recovery in Aged Mice.
Conclusions:This is the first study suggesting that the poor stroke recovery in aged mice can be reversed via "post-stroke bacteriotherapy" following the replenishment of youthful gut microbiome via modulation of immunologic, microbial and metabolomic profiles in the host. Trends, risk factors, and outcomes of post ‐operative stroke after heart transplantation: an analysis of the UNOS database
ConclusionsPost-operative stroke after HTx is infrequent but associated with higher mortality. Redo sternotomy, LVAD, and ECMO support at HTx are among the risk factors identified.

Attenuation of Myeloid Specific TGF β Signaling Induces Inflammatory Cerebrovascular Disease and Stroke.
Conclusions: Our studies show that TGFβ signaling in myeloid cells is required for maintenance of vascular health, and provide insight into inflammation-mediated cerebrovascular disease and stroke. PMID: 29051340 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Abstract 271: Anti-coagulation and Ischemic Stroke Risk in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease and Atrial Fibrillation: Insights from the Kaiser Permanente Colorado Atrial Fibrillation Registry Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: 1 in 3 patients with atrial fibrillation have CKD. There were similar reductions in the risk of stroke associated with warfarin use for CKD and non-CKD patients. These findings reinforce current clinical practice guidelines, which recommend warfarin use based on thromboembolic risk without consideration for CKD status.

Vitamin K antagonists for stroke prevention in hemodialysis patients with atrial fibrillation: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion Our meta-analysis revealed a trend for a reduction of the risk of ischemic stroke in hemodialysis patients with AF treated with VKA. The true protective effect may have been underestimated, owing to inclusion of low-risk patients not expected to benefit from anticoagulation and to suboptimal anticoagulation. However, assessment of the overall effect of VKA in hemodialysis patients should also take into account the increased risk of bleeding, in particular of hemorrhagic stroke. Whether new oral anticoagulants provide a better benefit–risk ratio in hemodialysis patients should be the subject of future trials.

Effect of Milrinone Infusion on Pulmonary Vasculature and Stroke Work Indices: A Single-Center Retrospective Analysis in 69 Patients Awaiting Cardiac Transplantation
ConclusionMilrinone improved left ventricular stroke work indices to a greater extent than right ventricular stroke work indices and had beneficial effects on right ventricular net input impedance, predominantly via augmentation of left ventricular stroke volume and passive unloading of the pulmonary circuit. Patients who had the worst biventricular performance benefited the most from chronic milrinone infusion.

Pre-Operative Risk Factors of Bleeding and Stroke During Left Ventricular Assist Device Support An Analysis of More Than 900 HeartMate II Outpatients
ConclusionsThe risk of bleeding and thrombotic events during LVAD support differs by patient demographics, including sex, age, body mass index, and etiology of heart failure. Further studies should focus on the potential of tailored anticoagulation strategies in these subgroups.

Endothelial Cell-Derived von Willebrand Factor Is the Major Determinant That Mediates von Willebrand Factor-Dependent Acute Ischemic Stroke by Promoting Postischemic Thrombo-Inflammation.
CONCLUSIONS: Plt-VWF, either in presence or absence of ADAMTS13, partially contributes to VWF-dependent injury and postischemic thrombo-inflammation after stroke. EC-VWF is the major determinant that mediates VWF-dependent ischemic stroke by promoting postischemic thrombo-inflammation. PMID: 27444201 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Characteristics and Prognosis of Stroke in Living Donor Renal Transplant Recipients
CONCLUSIONS: The underlying etiologies of stroke differed in RT and HD patients. The one-year risk of MACE for stroke patients who had received an RT was lower than that for patients undergoing HD and comparable with that of patients with no RRT.PMID:34776472 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63189
