Electrocardiographic Monitoring for Detecting Atrial Fibrillation After Ischemic Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Original Articles
Conclusions— Longer duration of electrocardiographic monitoring after cryptogenic stroke is associated with a greater detection of AF. Future investigation is needed to determine the optimal duration of long-term monitoring.

Post-Acute Care Data for Predicting Readmission After Ischemic Stroke: A Nationwide Cohort Analysis Using the Minimum Data Set Stroke
Conclusions Individual clinical characteristics from the post–acute care setting resulted in only modest improvement in the c-statistic relative to previous models that used only Medicare Part A data. Individual-level characteristics do not sufficiently account for the risk of acute hospital readmission.

Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Device and Novel Oral Anticoagulants Versus Warfarin for Stroke Prevention in Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials Original Articles
Conclusions— Novel oral anticoagulants is superior to warfarin for stroke prevention in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. This benefit was also observed in the elderly population. DEVICE is a reasonable noninferior alternative to warfarin for stroke prevention, but cautious use is essential given safety concerns.

Association of Acute and Chronic Hyperglycemia With Acute Ischemic Stroke Outcomes Post-Thrombolysis: Findings From Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Stroke
Conclusion Acute and chronic hyperglycemia are both associated with increased mortality and worse clinical outcomes in AIS patients treated with tPA. Controlled trials are needed to determine whether acute correction of hyperglycemia can improve outcomes after thrombolysis.

A meta-analysis investigating incidence and features of stroke in HIV-infected patients in the highly active antiretroviral therapy era
Conclusion: Stroke represents a relatively common complication in young, HAART-treated HIV patients. Apart from traditional cardiovascular risk factors, HIV-RNA viral load may help to target and manage patients at risk.

Interferon-{beta} Modulates Inflammatory Response in Cerebral Ischemia Stroke
Conclusions Our results demonstrate that IFNβ exerts a protective effect against ischemic stroke through its anti-inflammatory properties and suggest that IFNβ is a potential therapeutic agent, targeting the reperfusion damage subsequent to the treatment with tissue plasminogen activator.

Effect of Adherence to Oral Anticoagulants on Risk of Stroke and Major Bleeding Among Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology
Conclusions Adherence to anticoagulation is poor in practice and may be modestly improved with NOACs. Adherence to therapy appears to be most important in patients with CHA2DS2-VASc score ≥2, whereas the benefits of anticoagulation may not outweigh the harms in patients with CHA2DS2-VASc score 0 or 1.

An Approach to Working Up Cases of Embolic Stroke of Undetermined Source Stroke
Conclusions Our data indicate that patients with cryptogenic embolic stroke show distinct clinical and radiological features depending on the underlying causes.

Pulse pressure and in-hospital outcome of acute ischemic stroke
We aimed to evaluate the association between pulse pressure, a readily available marker of arterial stiffness, and the in-hospital outcome of patients with acute ischemic stroke. We prospectively studied 790 consecutive patients who were admitted with acute ischemic stroke (41.0% males, age 79.4±6.8 years). The severity of stroke was assessed at admission with the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). The outcome was assessed with dependency rates at discharge (modified Rankin scale between 2 and 5) and with in-hospital mortality.

Intravenous Thrombolysis for Acute Ischemic Stroke in Patients Receiving Antiplatelet Therapy: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of 19 Studies Stroke
Conclusions Patients with acute ischemic stroke receiving long-term antiplatelet medications were associated with greater risks of developing symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage after systemic thrombolysis. However, the overall independent association between prestroke antiplatelet therapy and unfavorable outcomes or mortality was insignificant.

Brunei epidemiological stroke study: patterns of hypertension and stroke risk
Conclusion: The prevalence of hypertension in Brunei is high in both women and men. Information campaigns and prevention programs are needed to be able to cope with the increasing problem of hypertension and resulting diseases like stroke in Brunei in the near future.

Hepatic Ketogenesis Induced by Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion in Mice Stroke
ConclusionsWe conclude that brain ischemia induces the formation of β‐hydroxybutyrate (ketogenesis) in the liver and the consumption of β‐hydroxybutyrate in the brain. This effect seems to be mediated by β‐adrenergic receptors.

Systolic Blood Pressure Within 24 Hours After Thrombectomy for Acute Ischemic Stroke Correlates With Outcome Stroke
ConclusionsHigher peak values of systolic blood pressure independently correlated with worse 90‐day modified Rankin scale and a higher rate of hemorrhagic complications. Further prospective studies are warranted to identify whether systolic blood pressure is a therapeutic target to improve outcomes.
