Lipid profiles and atrial fibrillation in ischemic stroke patients treated with thrombectomy: experience from a tertiary Italian stroke hospital
CONCLUSION: Total cholesterol and all cholesterol-related measures were significantly lower in patients undergoing thrombectomy than in other stroke patients. Conversely, we found that AF was significantly high in patients with EVT, suggesting that hypercholesterolemia could be mainly linked to small-vessel occlusion stroke while large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke could show different causes. AIS patients may have different pathogenesis and their understanding may improve enhance the discovery of specific and tailored preventive treatments.PMID:37221691 | DOI:10.2174/1871525721666230522124351

Endovascular treatment of patients with acute ischemic stroke and tandem occlusion due to internal carotid artery dissection: A multicenter experience
CONCLUSION: AIS patients with CD-TO were mostly treated with the retrograde approach with lower number of attempts per-procedure but it offered similar recanalization rates compared with the antegrade approach. Emergent carotid artery stenting (CAS) proved to be safe for CD management but it does not influence 3-months patients' clinical outcomes.PMID:35699167 | DOI:10.1177/19714009221108673

Feasibility and value of two-dimensional volumetric stress echocardiography.
CONCLUSIONS: Volumetric SE is highly feasible with all stresses, and more frequently impaired in presence of ischemic RWMA, absence of viability and reduced coronary flow velocity reserve. It identifies an altered stroke volume response due to reduced preload and/or contractile reserve. PMID: 32657562 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Lifestyle behaviours predicting major cardiovascular diseases mortality in a practically extinct cohort of middle-aged men followed-up for 61 years
Acta Cardiol. 2022 Jul 29:1-8. doi: 10.1080/00015385.2022.2101876. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo study lifetime relationships of three major lifestyle behaviours with cardiovascular mortality in a cohort of middle-aged men that reached practical extinction. In the Italian Areas of the Seven Countries Study of Cardiovascular Diseases (SCS), 1712 men were enrolled and examined in 1960, and behavioural habits were measured: smoking habits, physical activity and diet each divided into three classes. Follow-up for mortality was extended for 61 years. Three groups of major cardiovascular diseases (CVD) were used for analysis,...

Left atrial appendage closure using AMPLATZER ™ devices: A large, multicenter, Italian registry
Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) has been proven to be effective for stroke prophylaxis in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). We aim to assess the safety and efficacy of LAAO by AMPLATZER ™ devices in a large, multicenter, single-nation cohort of NVAF patients at high-risk of stroke and bleeding.

Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Closure with WATCHMAN ™ device: peri-procedural and mid-term outcomes from the TRAPS Registry
ConclusionsLAAO for stroke prevention was safely and effectively achieved by implantation of the WATCHMAN device in patients with non-valvular AF. Moreover, regardless of the risk profile of the population, we observed low rates of death and thromboembolic and bleeding events over a median follow-up of 16  months. These findings were obtained in an unselected group of consecutive patients who were variably eligible for chronic OAC therapy.
