Stenting versus medical therapy alone for symptomatic intracranial arterial stenosis: protocol for a systematic review and individual patient data meta-analysis
BMJ Open. 2023 Jun 20;13(6):e071668. doi: 10.1136/bmjopen-2023-071668.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) is a common cause of stroke worldwide. However, whether the treatment options for symptomatic ICAS is stent placement or medical therapy alone is still controversial. At present, three multicentre randomised controlled trials (RCTs) have been published, but their research designs are also slightly different and the conclusions are not completely consistent. Therefore, we plan to conduct a systematic review and individual patient data (IPD) meta-analysis of randomised clinical trials to as...

Borderzone Infarcts and Recurrent Cerebrovascular Events in Symptomatic Intracranial Arterial Stenosis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: This systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that the presence of BZI secondary to ICAS may be an imaging biomarker that predicts neurological deterioration and/or stroke recurrence.PMID:37282372 | DOI:10.5853/jos.2023.00185

The Rationalisation of Intra-Operative Imaging During Cardiac Surgery: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: Current data have shown EUS to have superiority over manual palpation and transoesophageal echocardiography in the prevention of CVAs following cardiac surgery. Yet, EUS has not been implemented as a routine standard of care. Extensive adoption of EUS in clinical practice is warranted to aid large, randomised trials before making prospective conclusions on the efficacy of this screening method.PMID:36870922 | DOI:10.1016/j.hlc.2023.01.016

Left atrial appendage occlusion in haemophilia patients with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsLAAO is feasible in haemophilia patients with concurrent atrial fibrillation. However, special care including intravenous substitution with coagulation factors must be given in the periprocedural management.

Effect of Extensive Ablation on Recurrence in Patients with Persistent Atrial Fibrillation Treated with Pulmonary Vein Isolation (EARNEST-PVI) trial: Design and rationale.
CONCLUSIONS: The EARNEST-PVI trial is a randomized controlled trial designed to assess whether PVI alone is non-inferior to extended substrate ablation for patients with persistent AF undergoing a first catheter ablation. PMID: 30853354 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Integrating new approaches to atrial fibrillation management: the 6th AFNET/EHRA Consensus Conference
AbstractThere are major challenges ahead for clinicians treating patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The population with AF is expected to expand considerably and yet, apart from anticoagulation, therapies used in AF have not been shown to consistently impact on mortality or reduce adverse cardiovascular events. New approaches to AF management, including the use of novel technologies and structured, integrated care, have the potential to enhance clinical phenotyping or result in better treatment selection and stratified therapy. Here, we report the outcomes of the 6th Consensus Conference of the Atrial Fibrillation Net...
