Pulmonary Embolism in Ischemic Stroke: Clinical Presentation, Risk Factors, and Outcome Stroke
Conclusions In this large cohort study, PE occurred in nearly 1% of AIS patients. PE was more common in patients with severe stroke, history of cancer, previous DVT/PE or acute DVT and associated with lower short- and long-term survival, greater disability, and longer length of stay.

Conclusions: The incidence of death without stroke was 9-fold higher than that of stroke, leading to biased estimates of stroke risk with traditional time-to-event methods. Statistical methods that appropriately account for competing risks should be used to mitigate this bias.

Conclusion: This study shows an inverse association of fruit and vegetable consumption with stroke risk. Traditional and Genetic Risk Score and Stroke Risk Prediction in Korea.

Causal Associations Between Serum Bilirubin Levels and Decreased Stroke Risk: A Two-Sample Mendelian Randomization Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide evidence of significant causal relationship between high levels of bilirubin and decreased stroke risk in Korean population in agreement with observational approaches. This highlights the potential for bilirubin to serve as a therapeutic target for oxidative stress-related diseases such as stroke and suggests that previous findings were not a consequence of unmeasured confounding. Young obese women could reduce their stroke risk
The global campaign to tackle stroke highlights the role of caregivers in supporting people who have suffered a stroke and aims to correct misinformation about the disease, such as the misconception that stroke only happens later in life.  Risk of stroke increases 3.5 times in young women who are overweight or obese and have metabolic disorders. Stroke Treatment and Prevention
Stroke is the leading cause of permanent disability in the United States (US). Each year approximately 795,000 people suffer from a stroke in the US, now being the number five cause of death behind heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, and accidents. In fact 1 in 20 people die from a stroke.1 In 2013 there were 6.5 million stroke deaths worldwide. On a global basis, stroke is the number two cause of death behind ischemic heart disease.2 The vast majority of strokes are ischemic (87%).
