Circulating microRNAs as diagnostic biomarkers for ischemic stroke: evidence from comprehensive analysis and real-world validation
In this study, comprehensive analysis and real-world validation were performed to assess the associations between circulating miRNAs and IS. 29 studies with 112 miRNAs were extracted after manual selection and filtering, 12 differentially expressed miRNAs were obtained from our results of meta-analysis. These miRNAs were evaluated in 20 IS patients, compared to 20 healthy subjects. 4 miRNAs (hsa-let-7e-5p, hsa-miR-124-3p, hsa-miR-17-5p, hsa-miR-185-5p) exhibited the significant expression level in IS patient plasma samples. Pathway and biological process enrichment analysis for the target genes of the 4 validated miRNAs id...

A scoping review protocol on diagnostic strategies to detect occult malignancies in individuals with ischemic stroke
ConclusionWe anticipate that the findings of this scoping review will identify strategies used to detect occult cancer in individuals with ischemic stroke and summarize their clinical utility (if reported). Addressing this knowledge gap will help guide the development of future clinical trials on occult cancer screening patients with ischemic stroke.

Systemic immune-inflammation index as a predictor of prognosis after carotid artery stenting compared with C-reactive protein
This study was a single-center retrospective investigation. Overall, 129 patients who underwent CAS were categorized into tertiles based on their SII levels. We primarily investigated the long-term major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) and secondarily the in-hospital and long-term stroke incidence, as well as all-cause death. ResultsThe in-hospital stroke rate tended to increase with a rise in SII (P = 0.13). Over the 5-year follow-up period, the Kaplan –Meier overall incidence of MACCE was 9.3%, 16.3%, and 39.5% in the lowest to highest tertiles, respectively (log-rank trend test,P647) was a predictor...

Impact of Smoke-Free Legislation on Acute Myocardial Infarction and Subtypes of Stroke Incidence in Shenzhen, China, 2012-2016: An Interrupted Time Series Analysis
CONCLUSION: Smoke-free legislation was enforced well in Shenzhen, which would generate good experiences for other cities to enact and enforce smoke-free laws. This study also provided more evidence of the health benefits of smoke-free laws on stroke and AMI.PMID:37424246 | DOI:10.3967/bes2023.064
