Korean vs. Western Exercise Capacity Nomograms for Korean Patients With Cardiovascular Disease
CONCLUSION: Korean patients with CVD with lower exercise capacity have higher risk of MACE. Considering inter-ethnic differences in cardiorespiratory fitness, the Korean nomogram provides more suitable reference values than the Western nomogram to determine lower exercise capacity and predict cardiovascular events in Korean patients with CVD.PMID:37309698 | PMC:PMC10261710 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2023.38.e179

Cation flux through SUR1-TRPM4 and NCX1 in astrocyte endfeet induces water influx through AQP4 and brain swelling after ischemic stroke
Sci Signal. 2023 Jun 6;16(788):eadd6364. doi: 10.1126/scisignal.add6364. Epub 2023 Jun 6.ABSTRACTBrain swelling causes morbidity and mortality in various brain injuries and diseases but lacks effective treatments. Brain swelling is linked to the influx of water into perivascular astrocytes through channels called aquaporins. Water accumulation in astrocytes increases their volume, which contributes to brain swelling. Using a mouse model of severe ischemic stroke, we identified a potentially targetable mechanism that promoted the cell surface localization of aquaporin 4 (AQP4) in perivascular astrocytic endfeet, which compl...

A Nested Case-Control Study to Explore the Association between Immunoglobulin G N-glycans and Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: This study validated that altered IgG N-glycan traits were associated with incident IS in men, suggesting that sex discrepancies might exist in these associations.PMID:37253665 | DOI:10.3967/bes2023.048

Effects of remote ischemic postconditioning on the pro-inflammatory neutrophils of peripheral blood in acute cerebral infarction
CONCLUSION: More severe cerebral infarction was associated with a higher percentage of pro-inflammatory neutrophils. The neuroprotective effect of RIPostC may partly be exerted through gene regulation to reduce pro-inflammatory neutrophils.PMID:37253636 | DOI:10.18632/aging.204751
