Cost-Effectiveness of Proton Pump Inhibitor Co-Therapy in Patients Taking Aspirin for Secondary Prevention of Ischemic Stroke
Conclusions Co-therapy with ASA plus PPI appears to be cost-effective compared with ASA monotherapy. The addition of PPI also appeared to prolong the duration of ASA therapy, thereby reducing the risk of ischemic stroke.

Is health-related quality of life between 90 and 180 days following stroke associated with long-term unmet needs?
Conclusion Routinely collected HRQoL data can identify survivors at risk of experiencing long-term unmet needs. This information is important for targeting service delivery to optimise outcomes following stroke.

Stroke Investigative Research and Education Network: Community Engagement and Outreach Within Phenomics Core
We describe the (a) study sites and their communities; (b) plans for community advisory boards, focus groups, and surveys; (c) methods for data management in REDCap database; (d) analyses of qualitative data; (e) evaluation of community and public engagement across multiple sites and research teams in SSA and the United States; (f) use of RE-AIM for presentation of evaluation data; and (g) community indicators of success. This is the first of its kind public outreach engagement initiative to evaluate stroke and genomics in SSA, and has implications as a model for assessment in other high–stroke risk populations.

Addressing Disparities in Stroke Prevention for Atrial Fibrillation: Educational Opportunities
This study identified barriers to optimal stroke prevention to develop a framework for clinician education. A comprehensive educational needs assessment was developed focusing on clinicians within the Stroke Belt. The mixed qualitative-quantitative approach included regional surveys and one-on-one clinician interviews. Identified contributors to disparities included implicit racial biases, lack of awareness of racial disparities in AF stroke risk, and lack of effective multicultural awareness and training. Additional barriers affecting disparities included patient medical mistrust and clinician-patient communication challe...

Effect of a comprehensive health education program on pre-hospital delay intentions in high-risk stroke population and caregivers
ConclusionThe comprehensive educational program was significantly effective in decreasing SPDBI, improving knowledge, enhancing stroke pre-symptoms alert, and reducing the possibility of pre-hospital delays.

Regenerative medicine: Stroke survivor and carer views and motivations towards a proposed stem cell clinical trial using placebo neurosurgery
ConclusionStroke survivor views and motivations reflect anticipation of the personal and future benefits of regenerative medicine. Partners/carers sought to balance the value of stroke survivor hope with carrying the weight of hope as carer, a conflict burden adding to known caregiver burden. All participants expressed the need for during and post‐trial psychological support. This study provides a rare opportunity to explore the prospective views and motivations of stroke survivors and their partners/carers towards a proposed Phase III 2‐arm RCT. This adds weight to qualitative evidence exploring capacity, consent, dec...

A survey of exercise professionals ’ barriers and facilitators to working with stroke survivors
This study aimed to investigate EPs’ opinions on working with SSs by rating their agreement of barriers and facilitators to working with SSs. The study also investigated EPs skills, interest and experience working with SSs and the relationship between EPs’ barriers and facilitators with their training on stroke. A descriptive cross‐sectional study was conducted using a researcher‐designed online survey between October and December 2015. Purposive sampling was used to survey EPs on the Register of Exercise Professionals in Ireland (n = 277). The response rate was 31% (87/277). Only 22% (19/86) of EPs had experienc...

Patient-reported outcomes in stroke clinical trials 2002 –2016: a systematic review
ConclusionsThis study highlights the paucity of information from patients ’ perspective in stroke-related RCTs. This trend may change over time as researchers increase adherence to reporting guidelines for clinical trial protocols.

Stroke and death-findings from a 25-year follow-up of a cohort of employed Swedish middle-aged men of the Coeur study
ConclusionFew of the traditional risk factors were significantly associated with stroke possibly explained by low power and/or different pathogenetic mechanism than for myocardial infarction.Partly because death occurred more often, we did find a number of potential risk factors to be significantly associated with this outcome.

Associations between suicidal ideation and health-related quality of life among community-dwelling stroke survivors: 2013 –2017 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
ConclusionIndividuals with stroke showed higher rates for problems on the EQ-5D, SI, and depression compared to the general population. They also demonstrated significant associations between SI and each EQ-5D dimension except physical activity, especially pain/discomfort and depression/anxiety. The study ’s findings can be referred to when predicting suicide risk in individuals with stroke by analyzing their EQ-5D scores.

Synthesising practice guidelines for the development of community-based exercise programmes after stroke
Conclusions: The synthesis may assist implementation of best practice by providing a structured intervention description that focuses on a particular clinical application, addresses practical issues involved in programme development and provision, and illustrates the range of best-practice options available to users where robust evidence is lacking. The synthesis approach could be applied to other areas of stroke rehabilitation or to other complex interventions.

Thrombolysis ImPlementation in Stroke (TIPS): evaluating the effectiveness of a strategy to increase the adoption of best evidence practice - protocol for a cluster randomised controlled trial in acute stroke care
DiscussionTIPS will trial a comprehensive, multi-component and multidisciplinary collaborative approach to improving thrombolysis rates at multiple sites. The trial has the potential to identify methods for optimal care which can be implemented for stroke patients during the acute phase. Study findings will include barriers and solutions to effective thrombolysis implementation and trial outcomes will be published whether significant or not.Trial registration: Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry: ACTRN12613000939796
