Hospital partnership and patient outcomes among postacute patients with stroke
CONCLUSIONS: A greater number of shared patients and a more concentrated referral linkage between acute and PAC providers may reduce potential adverse outcomes in PAC patients. Instead of attaining more partners, PAC policies should encourage providers to strengthen their patient-sharing relationship with their existing PAC partners.PMID:37523454 | DOI:10.37765/ajmc.2023.89401

A formative evaluation of the implementation of an upper limb stroke rehabilitation intervention in clinical practice: a qualitative interview study
Conclusions: Although GRASP has translated into clinical practice, it is not always used in the way in which it was shown to be effective. This formative evaluation has informed the development of a novel intervention which aims to bridge this evidence-practice gap in upper limb rehabilitation after stroke.

Clinical Practice Variation Needs to be Considered in Cost-Effectiveness Analyses: A Case Study of Patients with a Recent Transient Ischemic Attack or Minor Ischemic Stroke
Conclusions If important practice variation exists, hospital-level CEAs should be performed. These CEAs should include an assessment of the feasibility and costs of switching to a different strategy.

Key components of external facilitation in an acute stroke quality improvement collaborative in the Veterans Health Administration

Methods: A longitudinal observational population-based study. Information on all veterans discharged from a Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) with an ischemic stroke diagnosis between October 1, 2006 and September 30, 2008 were examined. A total of 10,430 patients met the inclusion criteria for the study. Unadjusted differences between pati...

Stroke: a Hidden Danger of Margin Trading in Stock Markets
Abstract Using 10-year population data from 2000 through 2009 in Taiwan, this is the first paper to analyze the relationship between margin trading in stock markets and stroke hospitalizations. The results show that 3 and 6 days after an increase of margin trading in the Taiwan stock markets are associated with greater stoke hospitalizations. In general, a 1 % increase in total margin trading positions is associated with an increment of 2.5 in the total number of stroke hospitalizations, where the mean number of hospital admissions is 233 cases a day. We further examine the effects of margin trading by gender an...

Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitor in Tube-Fed Patients With Stroke History
In a recent article published in the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association, Lee et al1 stated that angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, reported to prevent pneumonia in poststroke and elderly Asian patients,2 did not reduce the incidence of pneumonia in tube-fed patients with stroke history. Because pneumonia in poststroke patients has a high incidence and is associated with mortality, this study of patients with severe dysphagia and stroke history was of great interest; the results could have a significant impact in clinical settings.
