Pleocytosis in cerebrospinal fluid attributed to ischemic stroke: A review of the literature
Lumbar puncture is generally performed in stroke settings when infectious or inflammatory diseases are suspected to be the etiology. This review aimed to assess the prevalence of pleocytosis in the cerebrospinal fluid following ischemic stroke without inflammatory or infectious etiology.

Blood pressure variability and medial temporal atrophy in apolipoprotein ϵ4 carriers
AbstractBlood pressure variability is an emerging risk factor for dementia but relationships with markers of neurodegeneration and Alzheimer ’s disease risk are understudied. We investigated blood pressure variability over one year and follow-up medial temporal brain volume change in apolipoprotein ϵ4 carriers and non-carriers, and in those with and without Alzheimer’s disease biomarker abnormality. 1051 Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroi maging Initiative participants without history of dementia or stroke underwent 3–4 blood pressure measurements over 12 months and ≥ 1 MRI thereafter. A subset (n = 252) underw...

Simulation for Neurology training: Acute setting and beyond
Rev Neurol (Paris). 2021 Jul 3:S0035-3787(21)00599-3. doi: 10.1016/j.neurol.2021.03.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSimulation-based training is adapted for teaching neurology, and it can offer multiple programs for general and specialized neurologists. Indeed, simulation training is "learner-centered", assuring sessions tailored to each learner level, and provides a realistic, safe, controlled and reproducible environment to improve knowledge, technical and non-technical skills, including situational awareness, communication, teamwork and leadership. Indeed, simulation tools allow multidisciplinary sessions with differ...

Inflammasome Caspase-1 Activity is Elevated in Cerebrospinal Fluid After Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage and Predicts Functional Outcome
ConclusionsInflammasome-derived caspase-1 activity is elevated in the CSF of SAH patients compared to controls and higher levels correlate with worse functional outcome.

Acute Fluctuant Neurological Symptoms in Stable Chronic Cryptococcus gattii Cryptococcomas: A Novel Disease Complication
Conclusions: Central nervous system cryptococcomas are difficult to treat, chronic infections, that in our patient had lasted over 10 years despite treatment compliance. A true cryptococcal meningitis relapse is indicated by positive cell cultures in previously sterile fluid but cryptococcoma progression is measured by serial magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography scans. In the case of progression or relapse induction and consolidation therapy should be restarted. Our patient demonstrated neither relapse nor progression but presented with a novel disease complication of acute fluctuating neurology in chronic...

Herpes simplex virus 2 vasculitis as cause of ischemic stroke in a young immunocompromised patient
We report a case of a young woman with a left middle cerebral artery (MCA) ischemic stroke. The patient had history of HIV-1 infection, with periods of therapeutic non-compliance. Initial computed tomography (CT) imaging studies showed stenosis of the M1 segment of the left MCA, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) confirmed infarction of the MCA territory. Serial transcranial Doppler ultrasound revealed progressive occlusion of the MCA and stenosis of the left anterior cerebral artery. Systemic investigation for other causes of stroke was normal. Lumbar puncture revealed a mildly inflammatory cerebrospinal fluid, and HSV-...
