Changing the stroke network during pandemic scenarios does not affect the management of patients with a positive Cincinnati prehospital stroke scale
ConclusionsThe pandemic forced changes in the clinical mission of many hospitals by reducing the number of stroke units. Despite this, the organization of the emergency system allowed to identify strategic hospitals and thus avoid excessive transport time. The result was an adequate time for fibrinolysis/thrombectomy, in agreement with the guidelines. Coordinated management in emergency situations makes it possible to maintain service quality standards, despite the unfavorable scenario.

Adult-onset leukodystrophy with vanishing white matter: a case series of 19 patients
ConclusionsAO-LVWM presents varying clinical manifestations at onset, including stroke-like events. WM rarefaction is the most consistent diagnostic clue even in the latest onset cases. Spectroscopy and electrophysiological features are compatible with axon, rather than myelin, damage. Cerebral glucose metabolic abnormalities and retinal alterations can be present. LVWM might also be caused by a digenic inheritance affecting the eIF2B complex.

Late-onset fabry disease due to the p.Phe113Leu variant: the first italian cluster of five families
ConclusionThis study demonstrates that a cluster of subjects with p.Phe113Leu pathogenic variant is also present in Southern Italy. Disease manifestations are frequent in both sexes and may occur early in life. Cardiac involvement represents the core manifestation, but neurological and renal involvement is also frequent, suggesting that extra-cardiac complications deserve clinical attention.

The effect of robot-assisted walking in different modalities on cardiorespiratory responses and energy consumption in patients with subacute stroke
DISCUSSION: By decreasing GF and BWS values during robot-assisted walking, adequate cardio-metabolic and energy response in both subacute stroke patients and healthy individuals could be achieved. These results show us that it is important to consider the cardiorespiratory function of the patient when choosing training protocols.PMID:36884354 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2023.2188520

Design and implementation of a Stroke Rehabilitation Registry for the systematic assessment of processes and outcomes and the development of data-driven prediction models: The STRATEGY study protocol
ConclusionsThis study will test the feasibility of a stroke rehabilitation registry in the Italian health context and provide a systematic assessment of processes and outcomes for quality assessment and benchmarking. By the development of data-driven prediction models in stroke rehabilitation, this study will pave the way for the development of decision support tools for patient-oriented therapy planning and rehabilitation outcomes maximization.Clinical tial registrationThe registration on ClinicalTrials.gov is ongoing and under review. The identification number will be provided when the review process will be completed.

The PRESTO study: awareness of stroke symptoms and time from onset to intervention
In conclusion, our results may suggest that an informative campaign can be successf ul in making people rapidly aware of stroke onset, with the consequent rapid access to hospitals. Considering the changing of way of access to information, we think that an extensive multimedia campaign should be evaluated in the next future.

Carotid artery stenting during endovascular thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke with tandem occlusion: the Italian Registry of Endovascular Treatment in Acute Stroke
ConclusionsAmong AIS patients with TO, CAS during EVT was associated with a higher rate of successful reperfusion and a lower rate of 3  months’ mortality.

Efficacy of a multiple-component and multifactorial personalized fall prevention program in a mixed population of community-dwelling older adults with stroke, Parkinson's Disease, or frailty compared to usual care: The PRE.C.I.S.A. randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsThe intervention was ineffective in reducing the number of falls, the falling probability, and the time to the first fall at 12 months in a mixed population of community-dwelling elderly. A significant improvement for two balance indicators was recorded in the intervention group. Future studies are needed to explore different effects of the proposed interventions to reduce falls and consequences.

The Clinical Impact of Methotrexate-Induced Stroke-Like Neurotoxicity in Paediatric Departments: An Italian Multi-Centre Case-Series
ConclusionsSLS is a rare, well-characterized complication of MTX administration. Despite the small sample, we have been able to confirm some of the previous findings in literature. We also identified a linear correlation between age and severity of the disease, which could improve the future clinical management.

Evaluation of the Psychometric Properties of Jebsen Taylor Hand Function Test (JTHFT) in Italian Individuals With Multiple Sclerosis
This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the JTHFT in Italian adults with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).Materials and MethodsThe test's internal consistency was evaluated with Cronbach's alpha, whereas its concurrent validity was evaluated by comparing the JTHFT with the Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) and by calculating Pearson's correlation coefficient.ResultsThe JTHFT was administered to 29 Italians with MS. The Cronbach's alpha showed that the nondominant hand has a value of 0.76 and 0.91 for the dominant hand. Pearson's correlation coefficient showed significant correlations between JTHFT and HAQ.Di...

Brivaracetam as add-on treatment in patients with post-stroke epilepsy: real-world data from the BRIVAracetam add-on First Italian netwoRk Study (BRIVAFIRST)
Stroke is a leading disease worldwide, with an estimated incidence of more than 15 million cases annually [1]. Post-stroke epilepsy (PSE), which is defined as the occurrence of one or more unprovoked epileptic seizures at least one week after the stroke, develops in at least 4-6% of the stroke population [2]. Cerebrovascular disease is one of the most common causes of acquired epilepsy and accounts for about 10-15% of all newly diagnosed epilepsy cases [2]. Although PSE has overall a good prognosis and patients are generally responsive to pharmacological treatment, approximately 20% of the patients are pharmaco-resistant [3,4].
