Cerebral Arterial Stiffness as Measured Based on the Pulse Wave Velocity is Associated With Intracranial Artery Calcification in Patients With Acute Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: We found that in patients with acute ischemic stroke, ccPWV was positively related to the degree of IAC. Future longitudinal cohort studies may help to identify the potential role of IAC in the progression of cerebral arterial stiffness.PMID:36929059 | DOI:10.3988/jcn.2022.0209

Impact of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy on short- and long-term outcomes of pregnancy-associated hemorrhagic stroke
ConclusionsIn this retrospective study, women with hypertension disorders of pregnancy did not show worse short-term outcomes of pregnancy-associated hemorrhagic stroke compared to those without but had poorer long-term functional outcomes. This underlines the importance of prevention, recognition, and treatment of hypertension disorders in these women.

Differences in clinical and biological factors between patients with PFO-related stroke and patients with PFO and no cerebral vascular events
We present a study concerning clinical, demographic, and laboratory factors associated with stroke and transient ischemic attack in patients with patent foramen ovale (PFO), as well as comparing PFO-patients with and without cerebrovascular ischemic events (CVEs).Patients and methodsConsecutive patients with PFO-associated CVEs were included in the study; control group was selected from patients with a PFO and no history of stroke. All participants underwent peripheral routine blood analyses, as well as, on treating physician's recommendations, screening for thrombophilia.ResultsNinety-five patients with CVEs and 41 contro...

Rescue Epidural Saline Patch for Comatose Patients With Refractory Convexity Spontaneous Subacute Subdural Hematoma: Case Report
In this study, we report 4 cases of refractory CSSSH treated with rescue epidural saline patch, although history and imaging studies showed no evidence of SIH. Methods All 4 patients received a lumbar saline epidural rescue patch for consciousness impairment associated with refractory CSSSH, and one is particularly detailed. No patient had typical radiologic signs of SIH or, on the contrary, uncal herniation that could have indicated intracranial hypertension. Results The Glasgow Coma Scale score improved significantly in the days after application of the epidural patch in 3 patients. All patients showed an improvement o...

Serum neurofilament light chain levels are associated with early neurological deterioration in minor ischemic stroke
ConclusionEarly neurological deterioration is common in minor ischemic stroke and is associated with poor prognosis. The elevated sNfL level was associated with an increased risk of early neurological deterioration in patients with minor ischemic stroke. sNfL might be a promising biomarker candidate that can help to identify patients with minor ischemic stroke at high risk of neurological deterioration, for reaching individual therapeutic decisions in clinical practice.

Cerebral small-vessel disease at high altitude: A comparison of patients from plateau and plain
ConclusionPatients of CSVD residing at high altitude showed more severe WMH but less acute cerebrovascular events and lacunes in neuroimaging, comparing to patients residing at low altitude. Our findings suggest potential biphasic effect of high altitude on the occurrence and progression of CSVD.

Cerebrovascular Manifestations of SARS-CoV-2: A Comprehensive Review
AbstractPurpose of reviewThe risks of cerebrovascular manifestations due to SARS-CoV-2 infection are significantly increased within the first 6 months of the infection. Our work aims to give an update on current clinical aspects of diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular manifestations during acute and long-term SARS-CoV-2 infection.Recent findingsThe incidence of acute ischemic stroke and haemorrhagic stroke during acute SARS-CoV-2 patients is estimated at 0.9 to 4.6% and 0.5 –0.9%, respectively, and were associated with increased mortality. The majority presented with hemiparesis, dysarthria, sensory deficits, and a...

Determinants and clinical outcomes of stroke following revascularization among patients with reduced ejection fraction
ConclusionsFurther research appears warranted to minimize the complication of stroke and improve long-term outcomes among patients with reduced EF who underwent such high risk revascularization procedural.

MYPT1SMKO Mice Function as a Novel Spontaneous Age- and Hypertension-Dependent Animal Model of CSVD
AbstractCerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is the most common progressive vascular disease that causes vascular dementia. Aging and hypertension are major contributors to CSVD, but the pathophysiological mechanism remains unclear, mainly due to the lack of an ideal animal model. Our previous study revealed that vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC)-specific myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1) knockout (MYPT1SMKO) leads to constant hypertension, prompting us to explore whether hypertensive MYPT1SMKO mice can be considered a novel CSVD animal model. Here, we found that MYPT1SMKO mice displayed age-dependent CSVD-like ...

Impacts of medication non-adherence to major modifiable stroke-related diseases on stroke prevention and mortality: a meta-analysis
ConclusionsNon-adherence to medications for the four stroke-related diseases contributes to the development of stroke and/or mortality in primary stroke prevention. More efforts are needed to improve patients ’ medication adherence.

Neuromonitoring in Children with Cerebrovascular Disorders
ConclusionsOur understanding of pediatric cerebrovascular disorders has increased dramatically over the past several years, in part due to advances in the neuromonitoring modalities that allow us to better understand these conditions. We are now poised, as a field, to take advantage of advances in neuromonitoring capabilities to determine how best to manage and treat acute cerebrovascular disorders in children.
