Effect of arteriosclerotic intracranial arterial vessel wall enhancement on downstream collateral flow
CONCLUSIONS: Arteriosclerotic IAVWE significantly reduced downstream collateral flow and affected relevant neurological deficits. It was an independent factor affecting downstream collateral flow and NIHSS scores, which should be a focus of future studies.TRIAL REGISTRATION: ChiCTR.org.cn, ChiCTR2100053661.PMID:37545035 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002307

Trigeminal trophic syndrome associated with neuralgia after ischemic stroke —a case report
We describe the case of a 70-year-old woman who was hospitalized because of erythema, ulceration, and crusts on the right side of her face, accompanied by itching, burning, and irritation forcing self-manipulation of the skin. She had been previously repeatedly treated with antibiotics, acyclovir, and topical medications without any improvement. Her medical history revealed an episode of ischemic stroke in 2016, after which a deformation and partial atrophy of the right ala nasi appeared. Trigeminal neuropathy was confirmed by a neurological consultation. Diagnosis and treatment of TTS requires a multidisciplinary approach...

Improvement of diagnostic performance of hyperacute ischemic stroke in head CT using an image-based noise reduction technique with non-black-boxed process
To date, a variety of image-based noise reduction (INR) techniques for computed tomography (CT) have been reported. They are based on iterative processes or deep learning techniques. Some INR products using iterative processes are already commercially available and have been reported to exhibit noise reduction performance better than hybrid-type iterative reconstruction (HIR) in abdominal CT [1,2]. However, the details of the processes inside these commercial INR systems are usually proprietary and cannot be readily replicated outside.

Atherosclerotic Disease: Pathogenesis and Approaches to Management
Med Clin North Am. 2023 Sep;107(5):793-805. doi: 10.1016/j.mcna.2023.04.004. Epub 2023 Jun 1.ABSTRACTAtherosclerotic disease, including stroke and myocardial infarction, is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Atherosclerotic plaque formation occurs in the setting of excess oxidative and hemodynamic stress and is perpetuated by smoking, poor diet, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and diabetes. Plaque may rupture, resulting in acute thrombotic events. Smoking cessation, lifestyle modification, risk factor optimization, and antithrombotic therapies are the mainstays of atherosclerotic disease management and are...

Atrial fibrillation and anticoagulation in patients hospitalised for stroke in the REGIONS Care Study
CONCLUSIONS: Although anticoagulation prescribing in AF has improved, one third of stroke patients with known AF were not taking an anticoagulant prior to admission and the majority did not appear to have an absolute contraindication offering a multidisciplinary opportunity for improvement. There were no significant differences for Māori and non-urban populations in anticoagulant prescribing.PMID:37536308
