Icosapent Ethyl Reduces Ischemic Events in Patients with a History of Prior Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: REDUCE-IT CABG
Conclusions: In REDUCE-IT patients with a history of CABG, treatment with icosapent ethyl was associated with significant reductions in first and recurrent ischemic events.PMID:34710343 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.121.056290

The effect of single aortic cross-clamp technique versus multiple clamp technique on postoperative stroke in octogenarians undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting
CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative stroke in octogenarians may result from not only the cross-clamp technique used but also several other factors. We found that both techniques yielded similar outcomes.PMID:34704588 | DOI:10.5830/CVJA-2021-047

Ten-year all-cause death following percutaneous or surgical revascularization in patients with prior cerebrovascular disease: insights from the SYNTAX Extended Survival study
ConclusionPrior CEVD was associated with a significantly increased risk of 10  year all-cause death which was similar in patients treated with PCI or CABG. These results do not support preferential referral for PCI rather than CABG in patients with prior CEVD.Trial registration: SYNTAX: ClinicalTrials.gov reference: NCT00114972. Surgical strategies for severely atherosclerotic (porcelain) aorta during coronary artery bypass grafting
World J Cardiol. 2021 Aug 26;13(8):309-324. doi: 10.4330/wjc.v13.i8.309.ABSTRACTPorcelain aorta (PA) is an asymptomatic atherosclerotic disease, characterized by circumferential calcification throughout the whole perimeter of the aorta. It is seen in 2% to 9.3% of patients undergoing elective coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and makes manipulation of the ascending aorta impossible. It has been clearly shown that most emboli seen and detected during the CABG procedure occur during aortic cross-clamping and aortic side-clamping. Manipulation of porcelain or a severely atherosclerotic aorta increases the risk of periope...

Moderate-Intensity Statins Plus Ezetimibe vs. High-Intensity Statins After Coronary Revascularization: A Cohort Study
ConclusionsPatients undergoing a coronary revascularization procedure who received moderate-intensity statins plus ezetimibe showed similar rates of major adverse cardiovascular events as patients who received high-intensity statins.

Coronary artery bypass grafting versus stent implantation in patients with chronic coronary syndrome and left main disease: insights from a register throughout Germany
ConclusionLeft main stenting is a safe and effective treatment option for CCS-patients suffering from left main coronary artery disease at reasonable economic cost.Graphic abstractCoronary artery bypass grafting versus stent implantation in patients with chronic coronary syndrome and left main disease: insights from a register throughout Germany. All cases with chronic coronary syndrome and left main stenosis treated in 2018 in Germany either with left main stenting or coronary bypass grafting were extracted from a nation-wide database. In-hospital outcomes were compared after logistic regression analysis.

Short- and long-term outcome of patients with spontaneous echo contrast or thrombus in the left atrial appendage in the era of the direct acting anticoagulants
ConclusionEven in the DOAC era, the occurrence of thrombus or SEC in the LAA is associated with a high rate of MACCE. Our study suggests that the choice of DOAC therapy may have an impact on long-term survival.Graphic abstract

Prognostic Value of Procalcitonin for Morbidity and Mortality in Patients after Cardiac Surgery
CONCLUSION: Higher PCT serum levels in CABG patients are associated with the increased early mortality rate, sternum wound infection, and PC transfusion. Additionally, the other factors associated with mortality in the patients under study included dyslipidemia and hypertension.PMID:34350035 | PMC:PMC8328725 | DOI:10.1155/2021/1542551
