Abstract 221: National and Regional Trends in Hospitalizations for Ischemic Stroke after Acute Myocardial Infarction in the United States: 1999-2010 Poster Session II
Conclusions: From 1999 to 2010, the hospitalization rates of ischemic stroke after AMI decreased overall and for demographic subgroups and those undergoing PCI, CABG, or no revascularization. Declines were seen for all regions, but were consistently higher for stroke belt states. Post-AMI strokes 30-day mortality rates decreased over time.

Neurological Events Following Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement and Their Predictors: A Report From the CoreValve Trials Structural Heart Disease
Conclusions— Predictors of early stroke after TAVR included clinical and procedural factors; predictors of later stroke were limited to patient but not anatomic characteristics. These findings indicate that further refinement of imaging to identify anatomic factors predisposing to embolization may help improve stroke prediction in patients undergoing TAVR. Risk of stroke with percutaneous coronary intervention compared with on-pump and off-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery: Evidence from a comprehensive network meta-analysis
Conclusions: Percutaneous coronary intervention is associated with lower 30-day rates of stroke than both off-pump and on-pump CABG. Further studies are required to determine whether the risk of stroke is reduced with off-pump CABG compared with on-pump CABG.

Renal dysfunction and long-term risk of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke following coronary artery bypass grafting
Conclusions: Renal dysfunction is associated with increased long-term risk of stroke after primary isolated CABG. The impact of renal dysfunction on risk of stroke appears to be similar for both men and women.

Abstract 066: Perioperative Stroke as a Predictor of Mortality and Morbidity in Patients Undergoing CABG Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: Perioperative stroke remains a serious adverse outcome of CABG and is an independent predictor of mortality and morbidity. While rates of stroke and mortality are decreasing, morbidity continues to trend upwards. This study emphasizes the importance of prevention and early intervention in patients at risk for perioperative stroke.

The increased risk of stroke/transient ischemic attack in women with a cardiac implantable electronic device is not associated with a higher atrial fibrillation burden
ConclusionsAmong patients implanted with a CIED, an AF burden of at least 5  min is a common finding, (44% of patients). Clampless off-pump surgery reduces stroke in patients with left main disease
Conclusions: This study shows the superiority of OPCAB for patients with LMD with regards to risk-adjusted outcomes other than mortality. A “clampless OPCAB strategy”, effectively reduces stroke yielding similar early outcomes as PCI.

Impact of Left Atrial Appendage Closure During Cardiac Surgery on the Occurrence of Early Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation, Stroke, and Mortality: A Propensity Score Matched Analysis of 10,633 Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: -After adjustment for treatment allocation bias, LAA closure during routine cardiac surgery was significantly associated with an increased risk of early POAF, but did not influence the risk of stroke or mortality. Acute kidney injury and long-term risk of stroke after coronary artery bypass surgery
This study investigated the association between AKI and long-term risk of stroke.Methods and results: 50,244 patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in Sweden between 2000 and 2008 were identified from the SWEDEHEART registry. After exclusions 23,584 patients without prior stroke who underwent elective, primary, isolated, CABG were included.
