An overview of systematic reviews and meta-analyses of acupuncture for dysphagia post-acute stroke: A protocol
DiscussionThe current evidence will be evaluated to help answer the question - is acupuncture a potentially effective treatment for dysphagia after stroke?Prospero Registration Number CRD42019134163.

Application of survival analysis techniques to determine the optimal number of acupuncture therapy sessions for stroke patients.
CONCLUSION: Stroke patients who were going to improve saw a significant improvement in Barthel index by the 16th acupuncture session and the marginal improvement declined substantially afterward. Our approach required minimal data available from the medical records of a non-academic facility, yet practical implication could be achieved. TRIAL REGISTRATION: The study was retrospectively registered on 18 August 2017 with the Thai Clinical Trials Registry (ref. TCTR20170822002). PMID: 31958974 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The effect of combined scalp acupuncture and cognitive training in patients with stroke on cognitive and motor functions.
CONCLUSIONS: Combined scalp acupuncture and cognitive training can efficiently enhance cognitive and motor functions in patients with stroke during the recovery stage, which may be a more effective rehabilitation treatment after stroke than routine therapy and rehabilitation training alone. PMID: 32039871 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Eye-acupuncture with rehabilitation therapy for stroke
Conclusion: The results of this study will provide present evidence on assessing effectiveness of EA combined with rehabilitation training for patients with hemiplegia in the convalescent stage of stroke. Trial registration: This trial has been registrated in Chinese Clinical Trail Registry with the registration number as ChiCTR1900027835 (http://www.chictr.org.cn/).

Electroacupuncture promotes motor function and functional connectivity in rats with ischemic stroke: an animal resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging study.
CONCLUSION: EA at LI11 and ST36 could enhance the functional connectivity between the left motor cortex and the motor function-related brain regions, including the motor cortex, sensory cortex and striatum, in rats. EA exhibits potential as a treatment for ischemic stroke. PMID: 32576025 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Efficacy evaluation of acupuncture plus rehabilitation training for post-stroke deglutition disorders of qi-deficiency blood stasis pattern
ConclusionBased on the conventional treatment for stroke, acupuncture plus rehabilitation training or use of rehabilitation training alone both can improve the clinical symptoms in post-stroke deglutition disorders of qi-deficiency blood stasis pattern, but acupuncture plus rehabilitation training can produce more significant efficacy and better long-term efficacy in improving TCM symptoms.

Effect of acupuncture treatment on post-stroke cognitive impairment: A randomized controlled trial
Introduction: Post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI), which has a high morbidity, is closely associated with the recurrence and rehabilitation of ischemic stroke. There are 2 different stages of PSCI, including post-stroke cognitive impairment with no dementia (PSCIND) and post-stroke dementia (PSD). The latter has a significantly higher mortality rate than the previous one. Therefore, preventing the onset of PSD is of vital importance. However, there is no unequivocally effective prevention or treatment for PSCI, except intensive secondary prevention of stroke. The primary aim of this protocol is to explore whether a...

Effect of Acupuncture on Neuroplasticity of Stroke Patients with Motor Dysfunction: A Meta-Analysis of fMRI Studies
CONCLUSION: Acupuncture plays a role in promoting neuroplasticity in subcortical regions that are commonly affected by stroke and cortical motor areas that may compensate for motor deficits, which may provide a possible mechanism underlying the therapeutic effect of acupuncture.PMID:34188677 | PMC:PMC8192216 | DOI:10.1155/2021/8841720

Non-pharmacological interventions for spatial neglect or inattention following stroke and other non-progressive brain injury
CONCLUSIONS: The effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions for spatial neglect in improving functional ability in ADL and increasing independence remains unproven. Many strategies have been proposed to aid rehabilitation of spatial neglect, but none has yet been sufficiently researched through high-quality fully powered randomised trials to establish potential or adverse effects. As a consequence, no rehabilitation approach can be supported or refuted based on current evidence from RCTs. As recommended by a number of national clinical guidelines, clinicians should continue to provide rehabilitation for neglect tha...

Neuroplasticity of Acupuncture for Stroke: An Evidence-Based Review of MRI
Neural Plast. 2021 Aug 19;2021:2662585. doi: 10.1155/2021/2662585. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTAcupuncture is widely recognized as a potentially effective treatment for stroke rehabilitation. Researchers in this area are actively investigating its therapeutic mechanisms. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), as a noninvasive, high anatomical resolution technique, has been employed to investigate neuroplasticity on acupuncture in stroke patients from a system level. However, there is no review on the mechanism of acupuncture treatment for stroke based on MRI. Therefore, we aim to summarize the current evidence about this aspect an...
