Successful Treatment of Severe Lamotrigine Intoxication with CytoSorb Hemoadsorption
We report on a deeply comatosed 60-year-old woman who was treated in our intensive care unit with severe lamotrigine intoxication. To support removal from the blood, combined treatment with continuous veno-venous hemodialysis and CytoSorb hemoadsorption was started. Pre- and post-adsorber drug level measurements showed the rapid elimination of lamotrigine accompanied by an impres sive clinical improvement in the patient. Medical Conditions Among Survivors of Adolescent and Young Adult Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL), Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)
Conclusion: This study found that sociodemographic factors were associated with the risk of developing medical conditions in AYA NHL, ALL and AML survivors. As expected, the risk of medical conditions varied by cancer type and treatment, with those undergoing SCT having a higher risk of medical conditions regardless of cancer type. NHL and ALL survivors who were uninsured or publicly insured were at a consistently higher risk of developing medical conditions, as were Hispanic ALL survivors and Black AML survivors. Transfusion-transmitted malaria masquerading as sickle cell crisis with multisystem organ failure.
CONCLUSIONS: Clinical suspicion for transfusion-related adverse events, including hemolytic transfusion reactions and transfusion-transmitted infections, should be high in typically and atypically immunocompromised patient populations (like SCD), especially those on chronic transfusion protocols. Manual blood smear review aids in the evaluation of patients with SCD presenting with severe vaso-occlusive crisis and MSOF and can alert clinicians to the need for initiating aggressive therapy like RBC exchange and artesunate therapy.
