Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 2574: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Oral Anticoagulant Therapy in Atrial Fibrillation Cancer Patients
Conclusions: Anticoagulation with DOACs provides a higher safety profile with respect to VKAs in terms of stroke reduction and a relative bleeding reduction risk. Further studies are needed to better assess the optimal anticoagulation strategy in cancer patients with AF.

Statins for extension of disability-free survival and primary prevention of cardiovascular events among older people: protocol for a randomised controlled trial in primary care (STAREE trial)
Introduction The world is undergoing a demographic transition to an older population. Preventive healthcare has reduced the burden of chronic illness at younger ages but there is limited evidence that these advances can improve health at older ages. Statins are one class of drug with the potential to prevent or delay the onset of several causes of incapacity in older age, particularly major cardiovascular disease (CVD). This paper presents the protocol for the STAtins in Reducing Events in the Elderly (STAREE) trial, a randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial examining the effects of statins in community dwelling o...

Causes of death of patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation in Asians
ConclusionDeath due to ischemic stroke was responsible for only 4.7% of all deaths in Asian AF patients. Non-CV death, such as infection/sepsis or malignancy, was more far more prevalent than CV death in Asian AF patients. An improved integrated care approach is needed to reduce the prevalence of non-CV death in Asian AF patients.

Continuous ingestion of sodium chloride solution promotes allergen absorption and may exacerbate allergy symptoms on ovalbumin-induced food allergy in mice
In this study, we investigated the effect of continuous ingestion of sodium chloride (NaCl) on allergy symptoms using a mouse model of food allergy. BALB/c mice were divided into four groups of 6-8 animals each. The control-water group (CW) and sensitization-water group (SW) groups were provided free access to water, and the control-1% NaCl group (CS) and sensitization-1% NaCl group (SS) groups were provided a 1% NaCl solution. The SW and SS groups were sensitized with 50 µg ovalbumin (OVA) at 2 timepoints by intraperitoneal injection. After oral administration of OVA, anaphylactic response was measured and blood was coll...

Neuroprotective effects of betanin in mice with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury
Exp Anim. 2023 Feb 8. doi: 10.1538/expanim.22-0176. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCerebral ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury as found in stroke is a complex and heterogeneous disorder and closely related to disability and death. Today, nutraceuticals and protective therapy to increase neuronal integrity and prevent pathological complication are common. We investigated the neuroprotective effect of betanin against cerebral IR injury in mice. Forty male institute of cancer research (ICR) mice were divided into Sham-veh, IR-veh, IR-Bet50 and IR-Bet100 groups. After 2 weeks of oral administration of normal saline (vehicle; veh)...
