Evaluation of anti-inflammatory diphenyldihaloketone EF24 in transient ischemic stroke model
CONCLUSIONS: EF24 controls infarct growth and suppresses tissue inflammation in ischemic stroke, which can be monitored by 18F-FGA uptake.PMID:35254869 | DOI:10.1080/02699052.2022.2034959

Grape seed proanthocyanidins attenuate apoptosis in ischemic stroke
AbstractGrape seed proanthocyanidins (GSP) has been reported to attenuate endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-induced apoptosis, which is associated with ischemic stroke. However, whether GSP pays crucial roles in ischemic stroke still remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to explore the role of GSP in ischemic stroke and the underlying mechanism. The ischemic stroke mouse model was established by middle cerebral artery occlusion. GSP administration was performed intragastrically. Long-term neurological outcome was assessed by the foot fault test after reperfusion. Brain injury was identified by infarct volume from 2...

Connectivity map identifies luteolin as a treatment option of ischemic stroke by inhibiting MMP9 and activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.
This study aimed to explore potential new drugs in the treatment of ischemic stroke by Connectivity Map (CMap) and to determine the role of luteolin on ischemic stroke according to its effects on matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) and PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Based on published gene expression data, differentially expressed genes were obtained by microarray analysis. Potential compounds for ischemic stroke therapy were obtained by CMap analysis. Cytoscape and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) were used to discover signaling pathways connected to ischemic stroke. Cell apoptosis and viability were, respectively, evaluate...

Protective Effect of Ergothioneine Against Stroke in Rodent Models
AbstractErgothioneine (ET) is a naturally occurring antioxidant and cytoprotective agent that is synthesized by fungi and certain bacteria. Recent studies have shown a beneficial effect of ET on neurological functions, including cognition and animal models of depression. The aim of this study is to elucidate a possible effect of ET in rodent models of stroke. Post-ischemic intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) infusion of ET significantly reduced brain infarct volume by as early as 1  day after infusion in rats, as shown by triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) assay. There was a dose-dependent increase in protection, from 50 to...

Clinical Efficacy and Short-Term Prognosis of Butylphthalide and Sodium Chloride Injection Compared to Edaravone in the Treatment of Patients with Acute Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the positive impact of butylphthalide and edaravone on the therapeutic effect and short-term prognosis in acute stroke patients. The findings provide valuable guidance for future research and enhance our understanding of these drugs' mechanisms, offering the potential for improved stroke management and patient outcomes.PMID:37499159

Molecules, Vol. 24, Pages 793: GC-MS-Based Metabolomics to Reveal the Protective Effect of Gross Saponins of Tribulus terrestris Fruit against Ischemic Stroke in Rat
In this study, the protective effect of GSTTF on ischemic stroke in a middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rat model was investigated by the GC-MS-based metabolomics approach. 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining of brain tissues showed that GSTTF significantly reduced the infarct area after MCAO surgery. Metabolomic profiling showed a series of metabolic perturbation occurs in ischemic stroke compared with sham group. GSTTF can reverse the MCAO-induced serum metabolic deviations by regulating multiple metabolic pathways including fatty acids metabolism, amino acids metabolism, and carbohydrates metabolism...
