Endovascular treatment of patients with acute ischemic stroke and tandem occlusion due to internal carotid artery dissection: A multicenter experience
CONCLUSION: AIS patients with CD-TO were mostly treated with the retrograde approach with lower number of attempts per-procedure but it offered similar recanalization rates compared with the antegrade approach. Emergent carotid artery stenting (CAS) proved to be safe for CD management but it does not influence 3-months patients' clinical outcomes.PMID:35699167 | DOI:10.1177/19714009221108673

The Clinical Impact of Methotrexate-Induced Stroke-Like Neurotoxicity in Paediatric Departments: An Italian Multi-Centre Case-Series
ConclusionsSLS is a rare, well-characterized complication of MTX administration. Despite the small sample, we have been able to confirm some of the previous findings in literature. We also identified a linear correlation between age and severity of the disease, which could improve the future clinical management.

The transferability and validity of a population-level simulation model for the economic evaluation of interventions in diabetes: the MICADO model
ConclusionsThe transferability of the MICADO model varied by event and per cohort. Additional adjustments improved prediction of events for MICADO. To ensure a valid model in a new setting it is imperative to assess the impact of adjustments in terms of model accuracy, even when this involves the same country, but a new time period.

Sex differences in outcome after thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke. A propensity score-matched study
CONCLUSIONS: Subject to the limitations of a non-randomized comparison, women with stroke due to LVO treated with mechanical thrombectomy had a better chance to achieve complete recanalization, and 3-month functional independence than men. The results could be driven by women who underwent combined treatment.PMID:35647312 | PMC:PMC9134778 | DOI:10.1177/23969873221091648

Influence of atrial fibrillation subtypes on anticoagulant therapy in a high-risk older population: the FAI project
CONCLUSIONS: In a population-based survey, AF pattern was an independent predictor of OAC treatment. Paroxysmal AF is still perceived as carrying a lower risk of vascular events.PMID:35543807 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-022-02140-w

Credit: UNHCRBy Simone GalimbertiKATHMANDU, Nepal, Apr 29 2022 (IPS) The recently disseminated Zero Draft Ministerial Declaration of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)– the main UN event to track the member states’ progress to achieve the Agenda 2030 slated to be held in the first half of July– is a disappointment. For all its comprehensiveness, the document neglected to mention one of the most...

From Rags to Riches: Power and progress in Abu Dhabi
The Ethiad TowersBy Jan LundiusSTOCKHOLM, Apr 20 2022 (IPS) I recently visited Abu Dhabi and my impressions became intermingled with worries about the war in Ukraine. I also happened to read Livy’s The Early History of Rome, written around the beginning of CE, coming across these lines: The study of history is the best medicine for a sick mind; for in history you have a record of the infinite variety of human experience plainly set out for all to see; and in that record you can find for yourself and your country both examples and warnings; fine things to take as models, base things, rotten through and through, to avoid....

Association of the careggi collateral score with radiological outcomes after thrombectomy for stroke with an occlusion of the middle cerebral artery
AbstractWe aimed to examine the association between Careggi Collateral Score (CCS) and radiological outcomes in a large multicenter cohort of patients receiving thrombectomy for stroke with occlusion of middle cerebral artery (MCA). We conducted a study on prospectively collected data from 1785 patients enrolled in the Italian Registry of Endovascular Treatment in Acute Stroke. According to the extension of the retrograde reperfusion in the cortical anterior cerebral artery-MCA territories, CCS ranges from 0 (absence of retrograde filling) to 4 (visualization of collaterals until the alar segment of the MCA). Radiological ...
