Impact of Low-density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Levels on Outcomes in Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation: Results from the China Atrial Fibrillation Registry Study
CONCLUSIONS In patients with NVAF using standard or no lipid-lowering medication, low plasma LDL-C levels were related to an increased risk of stroke/thromboembolism and cardiovascular mortality.PMID:35418552 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.934747

Impact of atrial fibrillation on in-hospital outcomes among hospitalizations for cardiac surgery: an analysis of the National Inpatient Sample
The short-term impact of atrial fibrillation (AF) on cardiac surgery hospitalizations has been previously reported in cohorts of various sizes, but results have been variable. Using the 2005–2014 National Inpatient Sample, we identified all adult hospitalizations for cardiac surgery using the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification as any procedure code and AF as any diagnosis code. We estimated the impact of AF on inpatient mortality, length of stay (LOS), and cost of hospitalization using survey-weighted, multivariable logistic, accelerated failure-time log-normal, and log-tr...

Neuroimaging risk factors for participation restriction after acute ischemic stroke: 1-year follow-up study
The aim of the present study was to determine the neuroimaging predictors of poor participation after acute ischemic stroke. A total of 443 patients who had acute ischemic stroke were assessed. At 1-year recovery, the Reintegration to Normal Living Index was used to assess participation restriction. We also assessed the Activities of Daily Living Scale and modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score. Brain MRI measurement included acute infarcts and pre-existing abnormalities such as enlarged perivascular spaces, white matter lesions, ventricular-brain ratio, and medial temporal lobe atrophy (MTLA). The study included 324 men (73.1%...

Retrospective Study of 1255 Non-Anticoagulated Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation to Determine the Risk of Ischemic Stroke Associated with Left Atrial Spontaneous Echo Contrast on Transesophageal Echocardiography
CONCLUSIONS This novel risk score model effectively predicted the presence of LASEC in non-anticoagulated patients with NVAF.PMID:34893576 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.934795

Risk of stroke and other thromboembolic complications after interruption of DOAC therapy compared with warfarin therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation: a retrospective cohort analysis
This study did not find a significant difference in the complication rate after interruption of DOAC therapy compared with interruption of warfarin therapy in hospitalized patients with a high risk of thromboembolism.

Serum Beta-2 Microglobulin: A Possible Biomarker for Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS With the development of atrial fibrillation, the serum ß2-MG levels increase and are closely related to the left atrial remodeling due to AF. Therefore, ß2-MG can be an effective biomarker for predicting AF.PMID:34803158 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.932813

Impact of geriatric syndromes on anticoagulation prescription in older adults with atrial fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Age and CKD were significantly associated with anticoagulation prescription in patients with AF. Further studies on the impact of geriatric syndromes on anticoagulation prescription and outcomes in older adults are needed with specific guidelines for patients with geriatric syndromes and AF.PMID:34714212 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2021.2000717

The burden of undertreatment and non-treatment among patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation and elevated stroke risk: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Rates of nontreatment and undertreatment among NVAF patients remain high and are associated with preventable cardiovascular events and death. Strategies to increase rates of treatment may improve clinical outcomes.PMID:34632887 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2021.1982684

Effects of Different Intervention Time Points of Early Rehabilitation on Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Single-Center, Randomized Control Study
CONCLUSION: Our study indicated a higher efficacy in the ultraearly rehabilitation group than the early rehabilitation group. The result suggests an important practical significance in favor of the clinical treatment of stroke.PMID:34493977 | PMC:PMC8418926 | DOI:10.1155/2021/1940549
