Inappropriate Combined Antiplatelet and Anticoagulant Therapy in Older Patients with Atrial Fibrillation: Trend over Time (2009 –18)
ConclusionsWhile inappropriate combined antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy has declined over the last decade, there is still room for improvement. Antiplatelet deprescribing should be considered in all patients with inappropriate combined antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy, including those with vascular disease and no recent cardiovascular event.

Atrial fibrillation in critically ill patients who received prolonged mechanical ventilation: a nationwide inpatient report
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of comorbid AF is increasing, particularly in older patients. AF may lead to poorer prognosis, and high-quality intensive care is imperative for this population.PMID:34247459 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2020.142

248 An Evaluation of Patient Education Post-Stroke
ConclusionThese results illustrate areas in which we can improve education post-stroke, including ensuring patients receive individualised information about the aetiology of their stroke, risk factors and the importance of new medications. It also highlights the importance of ensuring advice regarding driving is clearly explained and documented.

134 Does a Purely Occipital Lobe Stroke Lead to Significant Long Term Disability and Handicap?
ConclusionA persistent VFD results in long term problems including an increased risk of further vascular events, a reduction in overall independence and quality of life following an occipital lobe stroke. This study has led to a business plan for a dedicated hemianopia clinic.

122 Are We Effective Prescribers? A Retrospective Audit of DOAC Prescribing Post Embolic Stroke for Non Valvular Atrial Fibrillation
ConclusionA significant number of patients prescribed DOAC in hospital were not appropriately anticoagulated (21%), a majority of which were under-dosed. The patients who were under-dosed were older and more likely to be on 5 or more medications.

Electrocardiogram Changes as an Independent Predictive Factor of Mortality in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke; a Cohort Study.
Conclusion: Based on the findings of the present study, it seems that along with age and history of cardiac diseases, ECG changes can be considered as an independent predictive factor of mortality in patients with ischemic stroke. PMID: 31432037 [PubMed]

Factors affecting general practitioners' decisions to adopt new prescription drugs - cohort analyses using Australian longitudinal physician survey data.
CONCLUSIONS: Our paper is one of the first to study the relationship between GPs' risk preferences, personality and their decisions to adopt new prescription drugs. Because NOACs are commonly prescribed and considered more cost-effective than their older counterpart, understanding factors affecting physicians' decisions to adopt NOACs has direct policy implications. Our results also highlight that even with universal coverage for prescription drugs, access to new drugs is different among patients, partially because who their doctors are and where they practice. 88 One-year outcomes of triple therapy and adherence with ESC guidelines in patients with AF undergoing PCI in a teaching hospital
Background/Introduction: Oral anticoagulation is the corner-stone for stroke prevention in Atrial Fibrillation (AF).Following Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) the risk of bleeding increase due to concomitant prescription of antiplatelet agents. The 2016 European Society of Cardiology( ESC) guidelines for non valvular AF provide clear recommendations for triple therapy  , Combination of two anti-platelet and oral anticoagulant in patients with underlying AF undergoing PCI, either electively or for acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The risk of such therapy is based on treatment duration and patient characteristics.

A Point ‐based Prediction Model for Cardiovascular Risk in Orthotopic Liver Transplantation: The CAR‐OLT Score
Conclusion: The point‐based CAR‐OLT risk score can identify patients at risk for CVD complications after OLT surgery (available at: www.carolt.us). This score may be useful for identification of candidates for further risk stratification or other management strategies to improve CVD outcomes after OLT. This article is protected by copyright. Predictors of Direct Oral Anticoagulants Utilization for Thromboembolism Prevention in Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSION: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first observational study finding that concomitant use of clopidogrel reduced the likelihood of DOAC utilization while prescription by a neurologist increased the probability of receiving a DOAC over warfarin in patients with AF.This article is open to POST-PUBLICATION REVIEW. Teaching NeuroImages: Acute Parinaud syndrome
An 82-year-old man with atrial fibrillation, nonadherent to rivaroxaban, presented with sudden bilateral ptosis. Examination demonstrated bilateral ptosis (figure 1), pupils midline, fixed midsize, not reactive to light but constricting to accommodation, impaired vertical eye movements, paresis of superior greater than inferior rectus, and upgaze convergence nystagmus. MRI showed infarction of bilateral third nerve nuclei and mesial thalami consistent with an artery of Percheron infarct (figure 2), presumed cardioembolic origin. Artery of Percheron is a single P1 branch that supplies the bilateral paramedian thalami and ro...
