A Randomized Control Trial of Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor (G-CSF) Intervention in Acute Ischemic Stroke to Improve Functional Outcome (P1.139)
Conclusions: Endogenous mobilization of bonemarrow hematopoietic stem cells by GCSF administration perhaps leads to better functional outcome. This study provides preliminary evidence of potential safety, feasibility, and tolerability of G-CSF therapy in patients with acute ischaemic stroke. The safety and modest efficacy demonstrated in this study augurs for further studies with a larger sample sizes and longer follow ups.Disclosure: Dr. Gorthi has nothing to disclose. Improving Post-Stroke Dysphagia Outcomes Through a Standardized and Multidisciplinary Protocol: An Exploratory Cohort Study
Abstract Stroke is a major cause of dysphagia. Few studies to date have reported on standardized multidisciplinary protocolized approaches to the management of post-stroke dysphagia. The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to evaluate the impact of a standardized multidisciplinary protocol on clinical outcomes in patients with post-stroke dysphagia. We performed retrospective chart reviews of patients with post-stroke dysphagia admitted to the neurological ward of Verona University Hospital from 2004 to 2008. Outcomes after usual treatment for dysphagia (T− group) were compared versus outcomes after treat...

P-008 Evaluating Racial/Ethnic Disparity in Endovascular Thrombectomy Outcome for Acute Stroke Patients: 4,763 patients using Premier data 2011 to 2015
ConclusionsThere were no differences in hospital outcome among races/ethnicities in endovascular thrombectomy outcomes for acute stroke patients in the Premier data. Racial/ethnic disparities play role for patients’ selection not for patients’ outcome in endovascular thrombectomy.DisclosuresS. Park: None. M. Pilot: None. M. Integrated oral health care for stroke patients – a scoping review
ConclusionManaging oral health poststroke is vital, and there is a need for an appropriate integrated oral care service in Australia. Relevance to clinical practiceNondental professionals, especially nurses, can play a key role in the poststroke oral health management of stroke patients to reduce complications, especially pneumonia.

Coding of significant comorbidities and complications for stroke in rehabilitation.
Conclusion Not all stroke comorbidities are represented accurately in hospital morbidity datasets. Education of stroke clinicians about the current ACS may clarify expectations about medical record documentation for coding purposes which in turn may result in more accurate morbidity data and therefore costings for the rehabilitation sector. The impact of aspiration pneumonia and nasogastric feeding on clinical outcomes in stroke patients: a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionHigh prevalence and cost of complications associated with stroke highlights the complexity of providing nursing and allied health care to this patient population. This provides a snap shot of dysphagia related complications experienced by stroke patients. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Plugging the patient evidence gap: what patients with swallowing disorders post-stroke say about thickened liquids.
CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS: TL can be considered a burdensome treatment from multiple perspectives including product palatability, treatment uncertainty and treatment adherence issues. Despite intensely disliking this treatment, some patients ultimately understand why the treatment is prescribed. Improvements in product palatability are required in order to improve adherence and patient quality of life. Consideration of other treatment options and newer products to manage aspiration post-stroke is also warranted. PMID: 28621030 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Oral hygiene practices and knowledge among stroke ‐care nurses: a multi‐center cross‐sectional study
ConclusionsThe clinical practice of providing oral hygiene care is less than ideal and there are deficiencies in oral health knowledge for stroke care. Oral health knowledge was associated with clinical practice of providing oral hygiene care. This has implications for training and integrating oral hygiene care within stroke rehabilitation. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Predictors of prolonged hospital stay in a Comprehensive Stroke Unit.
CONCLUSION: this study showed that three complications delayed hospital discharge in patients admitted in a stroke unit, two preventable ones: pneumonia and urinary tract infection. More intense measures to avoid them should be included in the performance indicators to reduce the length of hospital stay in stroke units. PMID: 31618390 [PubMed - in process]

Ischemic stroke alters immune cell niche and chemokine profile in mice independent of spontaneous bacterial infection
ConclusionThis is the first report to demonstrate a significant reduction of lymphocytes and multiple proinflammatory chemokines in the lungs following ischemic stroke in mice. These findings suggest that ischemic stroke directly impacts pulmonary immunity.
