The population attributable risk and clustering of stroke risk factors in different economical regions of China
The greatest regional variation in stroke prevalence exists in China. However, whether there are differences in population attributable risk (PAR) and clustering of stroke risk factors among regions resulting in stroke geographic variation is unclear. We conducted face-to-face surveys of residents of 14 provinces from September 2016 to May 2017 who participated in the Chinese Stroke Screening and Prevention Project. We compared the specific PAR values of eight risk factors and the different cluster rates and patterns in China. A total of 84,751partipants were included. Eight factors accounted for 70% to 80% of the PAR of...

Exploring stroke risk and prevention in China: insights from an outlier
Aging (Albany NY). 2021 Jun 4;13(undefined). doi: 10.18632/aging.203096. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn contrast to the declining trend in most regions worldwide, the incidence of stroke is increasing in China and is leading to an alarming burden for the national healthcare system. In this review, we have generated new insights from this outlier, and we aim to provide new information that will help decrease the global stroke burden, especially in China and other regions sharing similar problems with China. First of all, several unsolved aspects fundamentally accounting for this discrepancy were promising, including the s...

Impacts of type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension on the incidence of cardiovascular diseases and stroke in China real-world setting: a retrospective cohort study
Conclusion T2DM and HTN were strongly associated with combined VE and stroke risk; however, the HTN-only group had a higher combined VE and stroke risk than the T2DM-only group.

Epidemiology of acute kidney injury in patients with stroke: a retrospective analysis from the neurology ICU
AbstractAcute kidney injury (AKI) is proven to be an independent risk factor for adverse clinical outcomes in patients with stroke, but data about the epidemiology of AKI in these patients are not well characterized. Therefore, we investigated the incidence, risk factors, and the impact of AKI on the clinical outcomes in a group of Chinese patients with stroke. We retrospectively recruited 647 stroke patients from the neurology ICU between 2012 and 2013. AKI was identified according to the 2012 KDIGO criteria. Baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated using modified Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemio...

Combined Effects of Family History of Cardiovascular Disease and Serum C-reactive Protein Level on the Risk of Stroke: A 9.2-year Prospective Study among Mongolians in China
Conclusion Participants with both a family history of CVD and high CRP levels had the highest stroke incidence, suggesting that high CRP levels may increase stroke risk, especially of ischemic stroke, among individuals with a family history of CVD.

Common variants of ROCKs and the risk of hypertension, and stroke: Two case-control studies and a follow-up study in Chinese Han population
Publication date: March 2018 Source:Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Basis of Disease, Volume 1864, Issue 3 Author(s): Song Yang, Yanping Zhao, Yuanrui Tian, Yanchun Chen, Xianghai Zhao, Ying Li, Hailong Zhao, Xiaotian Chen, Lijun Zhu, Zhengmei Fang, YingShui Yao, Zhibing Hu, Chong Shen The Rho kinases (ROCKs) are recognized as a critical regulator of vascular functions in cardiovascular disorders. It is crucial to illustrate the association of ROCKs genetic variation and hypertension and/or stroke events. Herein we aimed at investigating the association of ROCK1 and ROCK2 with hypertension and stroke in Ch...

Association between healthy vascular aging and the risk of the first stroke in a community-based Chinese cohort.
In this study we tested whether vascular aging is associated with the risk of first stroke in the Kailuan cohort, a community-based Chinese cohort. For participants aged ≥ 50 years, healthy vascular aging (HVA) was defined as an absence of hypertension and a brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity < the mean + 2 standard deviations, which was determined from a reference sample of healthy participants aged < 30 years. The primary outcome was first stroke (ischemic or hemorrhagic). In total, 11,474 participants were enrolled. The prevalence of HVA decreased from 36.0% in participants aged 50-59 years to 4.7% in those aged...

SNP rs2043211 (p.C10X) in CARD8 Is Associated with Large-Artery Atherosclerosis Stroke in a Chinese Population
This study aimed to explore the possible association between rs2043211 and large-artery atherosclerosis stroke in Chinese and explain the possible mechanism. In total, 716 large-artery atherosclerosis stroke patients and 1088 controls were included in the study. Co-dominant, dominant, and recessive genetic models were constructed to evaluate the relationship between rs2043211 and large-artery atherosclerosis stroke risk by odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals. Stratified and interaction analyses were also done. We selected another 111 large-artery atherosclerosis stroke patients and measured the CARD8 levels in their ...
