Bilateral impairments in task-dependent modulation of the long-latency stretch reflex following stroke.
CONCLUSION: Modulation of the LLR is altered in the paretic and non-paretic arms after stroke. SIGNIFICANCE: Our results are indicative of bilateral sensorimotor impairments following stroke. The inability to regulate the LLR may contribute to bilateral deficits in tasks that require precise control of limb mechanics and stability. PMID: 23453250 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

High natural killer cell number might identify stroke patients at risk of developing infections
Conclusions: High circulating NK cell count within the first hours after ischemic stroke onset followed by a drop in all lymphocyte subsets identified patients who developed infections and may be caused by a sympathovagal imbalance with sympathetic overweight. These findings need to be validated in larger studies.

Comprehensive neuromechanical assessment in stroke patients: reliability and responsiveness of a protocol to measure neural and non-neural wrist properties
Conclusions: Passive, active and reflexive parameters can be assessed with high reliability in post-stroke patients. Parameters were responsive to clinical status. The next step is longitudinal measurement of passive, active and reflexive parameters to establish their predictive value for functional outcome after stroke.

Linear and nonlinear parameters of heart rate variability in ischemic stroke patients
Conclusions Cardiac monitoring in clinical routine using HRV analysis in order to identify autonomic imbalance may highlight cardiac dysfunctions, thus helping preventing potential cardiovascular complications, especially in right hemisphere ischemic stroke patients with sympathetic hyperactivation.

Randomized Sham-Controlled Pilot Study of Neurocardiac Function in Patients With Acute Ischaemic Stroke Undergoing Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback
