Time-averaged level of fibroblast growth factor-23 and clinical events in chronic kidney disease
Conclusions Our study confirms that FGF23 is an important cardiovascular risk factor. Two measurements of FGF23 have no added value over a single value to predict the cardiovascular outcome. This study demonstrates that, under routine clinical practice, the variability of FGF23 in 2 years' time is small. Concomitantly, this study showed no benefit of consecutive FGF23 testing for estimating the risk of a clinical event in an individual patient.

Hypertension in hemodialysis patients treated with atenolol or lisinopril: a randomized controlled trial
Conclusions Among maintenance dialysis patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy, atenolol-based antihypertensive therapy may be superior to lisinopril-based therapy in preventing cardiovascular morbidity and all-cause hospitalizations. Bisphosphonates and Mortality in Women with CKD and the Presence or Absence of Cardiovascular Disease.

Renal "hyperfiltrators" are at elevated risk of death and chronic diseases
Conclusion: Renal "hyperfiltrators" represent individuals with autoimmune activation (involving serum creatinine, partly escaping assay), are misclassified into optimal renal function and actually are at significantly higher risk of death, HF or cardiopulmonary events. Low serum creatinine levels may represent a clue to the existence of autoimmune activation.

Vasopressin receptor antagonists for the treatment of heart failure: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Conclusions Vasopressin receptors antagonists may reduce body weight and increase Na but do not improve all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality or kidney function. In addition, acceptability of long-term treatment side effects and hospitalization appears problematic.

Assessment of Achieved Clinic and Ambulatory Blood Pressure Recordings and Outcomes During Treatment in Hypertensive Patients With CKD: A Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study
Conclusions In patients with treated CKD, clinic BP above goal and ambulatory BP at goal identify a low-risk condition, whereas clinic BP at goal and ambulatory BP above goal are associated with higher cardiorenal risk, similar to that observed in patients with both clinic and ambulatory BPs above goal.

Urine Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease and Death in CKD: Results From the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Study

Development and Validation of a Model to Predict 5-Year Risk of Death without ESRD among Older Adults with CKD.

Epidemiologic insights on the role of fibroblast growth factor 23 in cardiovascular disease
Purpose of review: Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) regulates phosphate and vitamin D homeostasis and rises as kidney function declines. Animal studies have demonstrated direct and indirect effects of FGF23 that may promote heart disease. Herein, we review the recent epidemiologic literature evaluating the relationship between FGF23 and cardiovascular disease.
