The association between the serum vitamin D levels and the stroke lesion size, functional ability, and cognition in elderly Korean ischemic stroke patients
This study included Korean ischemic stroke patients aged 65 to 85 years. The size of the lesion was measured in brain images taken within 24 hours of hospitalization. The level of 25-(OH) Vitamin D (ng/mL), a metabolite of vitamin D, in the serum collected within 48 hours of hospitalization, and the modified Barthel index (MBI), gait performance, the muscle power of hip and knee extensors on the hemiplegic side, and mini-mental status examination (MMSE) were recorded within 1 week of the onset of the disease. Each factor was compared through correlation analysis, and the significance was confirmed using the Spearman correl...

Relationship between serum vitamin D levels and inflammatory markers in acute stroke patients
ConclusionsSerum vitamin D levels are inversely associated with the levels of interleukin‐6 and hsCRP, suggesting a potential anti‐inflammatory role for vitamin D in stroke individuals. Our study explored the relationship between vitamin D levels and inflammatory markers in acute stroke patients and examined the effect of vitamin D and inflammatory markers on poststroke depression. We found that serum vitamin D levels were negatively associated with serum levels of interleukin‐6, suggesting a potential anti‐inflammatory role for vitamin D. Our results provided evidence for the mechanism of poststroke depression ca...

Role of vitamin D in the association between pre-stroke sleep quality and poststroke depression and anxiety
CONCLUSION: Decreased serum vitamin D levels at admission are associated with a high risk for PSD and PSA in patients with poor pre-stroke sleep quality during the early stages of AIS.PMID:37542680 | DOI:10.1007/s11325-023-02894-1

Vitamin D deficiency is associated with acute ischemic stroke, C-reactive protein, and short-term outcome
AbstractThe aim of this study was to investigate whether vitamin D deficiency (VDD) is associated with acute ischemic stroke, inflammatory markers, and short-term outcome. 168 acute ischemic stroke patients and 118 controls were included. The modified Rankin Scale (mRS) was applied up to 8  h of admission (baseline) and after three-months follow-up, and blood samples were obtained up to 24 h of admission to evaluate serum levels of 25-hydroxivitamin D [25(OH)D] and inflammatory markers. Vitamin D levels classified the individuals in sufficient (VDS ≥ 30.0 ng/mL), insufficient (VDI 20.0–29.9 ng/mL), and deficien...

Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D deficiency predicts poor outcome among acute ischemic stroke patients without hypertension
Publication date: Available online 3 May 2018 Source:Neurochemistry International Author(s): Bingjun Zhang, Yuge Wang, Yi Zhong, Siyuan Liao, Zhengqi Lu 25-Hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) deficiency is a frequent condition in patients who suffer acute ischemic stroke (AIS), and several studies suggested that it may be associated with a poorer prognosis. Whether this association is affected by hypertension is unclear. Our aim was to investigate the association between 25(OH)D levels and both clinical severity and outcome after 3 months in AIS patients stratified by the history of hypertension. Consecutive first-ever AIS patient...

25-Hydroxyvitamin D Level, Vitamin D Intake, and Risk of Stroke: A Dose –Response Meta-Analysis
A growing number of studies have shown that vitamin D are related to the risk of stroke, however, the dose –response association between vitamin D and the risk of stroke is still unclear. Accordingly, we conducted a dose–response meta-analysis to evaluate the relationships between 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] level, vitamin D intake, and the risk of stroke by summarizing cohort studies.

Association Between Serum Vitamin D Levels and Physical Outcomes of Patients Who Underwent Rehabilitation Following Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSIONS Lower serum vitamin D levels and more advanced age may be associated with worse functional outcomes in first-ever ischemic stroke patients.PMID:37248685 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.940115

Impact of seasons on stroke-related depression, mediated by vitamin D status
This study aimed to describe the seasonal variation of depression prevalence among stroke patients at 1 month and to explore whether vitamin D plays a role in the association between seasons and post-stroke de...
