Trends in Intensive Care Admissions and Outcomes of Stroke Patients Over 10 Years in Brazil: Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic
Chest. 2022 Nov 5:S0012-3692(22)04049-1. doi: 10.1016/j.chest.2022.10.033. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic affected stroke care worldwide. Data from low- and middle-income countries is limited.RESEARCH QUESTION: What was the impact of the pandemic in intensive care admissions and outcomes of patients with stroke, in comparison to trends over the last ten years?STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Retrospective cohort study including prospectively collected data from 165 ICUs in Brazil between 2011 and 2020. We analyzed clinical characteristics and mortality over a period of 10 years ...

Efficacy and safety of human-derived neural stem cell in patients with ischaemic stroke: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial
Introduction Stroke is the most common cause of neurological disability in adults worldwide. Neural stem cell (NSC) transplantation has shown promising results as a treatment for stroke in animal experiments. The pilot investigation of stem cells in stroke phase 1 and phase 2 trials showed that transplantation of the highest dose (20 million cells) was well tolerated. Preliminary clinical benefits have also been observed. However, the trials were open-label and had a small sample size. Furthermore, human NSCs (hNSCs) were intracerebrally implanted, and some serious adverse events were considered to be related to the surgic...

Triglyceride-glucose index and short-term functional outcome and in-hospital mortality in patients with ischemic stroke
The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has been demonstrated as an independent marker of ischemic stroke. Whether TyG index predicts short-term outcomes in patients with ischemic stroke remains uncertain. The aim of the study was to investigate the early prognosis value of TyG index in ischemic stroke patients.

Admission Rates, Time Trends, Risk Factors, and Outcomes of Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke From German Nationwide Data
DISCUSSION: Despite recent advances in acute stroke care over the last decade, the percentage of stroke hospitalizations resulting in death remained unchanged. Further research is needed to determine how best to optimize stroke care pathways for multimorbid patients.PMID:36332988 | DOI:10.1212/WNL.0000000000201259

Rivaroxaban and apixaban in patients with atrial fibrillation; a real-world data
This study aims to analyze the real-life data of patients who were prescribed rivaroxaban and apixaban and to emphasize the points that we think will make a difference compared to randomized controlled studies.METHODS: The patients who accepted to participate in the study in whom rivaroxaban (15-20 mg) and apixaban (2.5-5 mg) were started with the diagnosis of atrial fibrillation between 01 January 2018 and 31 December 2019 and whose records were fully accessed through the hospital automation system were included in the study.RESULTS: One hundred and ninety-four (48.5%) of a total of 400 patients using rivaroxaban and apix...

CHA2DS2-VASc score as a prognostic indicator in patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing coronary stenting
This study aimed to assess the accuracy of CHA2DS2-VASc score for predicting and grading adverse clinical outcomes in this population.METHODS: We reviewed the clinical data of all patients with previously documented nonvalvular AF who underwent coronary stenting between January 2010 and June 2015 in 12 hospitals of Beijing, China. The study population was divided into three groups: 1) Low CHA2DS2-VASc score, ≦ 2 points, 2) Intermediate score, 3-4 points, and 3) High score, ≧ 5 points. Major adverse cardiac/cerebrovascular events (MACCE) were defined as a composite of all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, rep...
