Rivaroxaban and apixaban in patients with atrial fibrillation; a real-world data
This study aims to analyze the real-life data of patients who were prescribed rivaroxaban and apixaban and to emphasize the points that we think will make a difference compared to randomized controlled studies.METHODS: The patients who accepted to participate in the study in whom rivaroxaban (15-20 mg) and apixaban (2.5-5 mg) were started with the diagnosis of atrial fibrillation between 01 January 2018 and 31 December 2019 and whose records were fully accessed through the hospital automation system were included in the study.RESULTS: One hundred and ninety-four (48.5%) of a total of 400 patients using rivaroxaban and apix...

CHA2DS2-VASc score as a prognostic indicator in patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing coronary stenting
This study aimed to assess the accuracy of CHA2DS2-VASc score for predicting and grading adverse clinical outcomes in this population.METHODS: We reviewed the clinical data of all patients with previously documented nonvalvular AF who underwent coronary stenting between January 2010 and June 2015 in 12 hospitals of Beijing, China. The study population was divided into three groups: 1) Low CHA2DS2-VASc score, ≦ 2 points, 2) Intermediate score, 3-4 points, and 3) High score, ≧ 5 points. Major adverse cardiac/cerebrovascular events (MACCE) were defined as a composite of all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, rep...

Prognostic factors for mortality, intensive care unit and hospital admission due to SARS-CoV-2: a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies in Europe
Eur Respir Rev. 2022 Nov 2;31(166):220098. doi: 10.1183/16000617.0098-2022. Print 2022 Dec 31.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: As mortality from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is strongly age-dependent, we aimed to identify population subgroups at an elevated risk for adverse outcomes from COVID-19 using age-/gender-adjusted data from European cohort studies with the aim to identify populations that could potentially benefit from booster vaccinations.METHODS: We performed a systematic literature review and meta-analysis to investigate the role of underlying medical conditions as prognostic factors for adverse outcomes due to sever...

Mechanical thrombectomy first versus direct angioplasty or stenting for the treatment of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis-related large vessel occlusion: protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
This study seeks to provide direct and practical clinical evidence for clinicians. Methods and analysis The main databases of PubMed, the Cochrane library, Embase and Web of Science will be screened for related studies published after1 January 2015. Primary outcomes include successful recanalisation and 90-day favourable outcome. Secondary outcomes include puncture to revascularisation time, vascular complication (perforation, dissection and vasospasm), intracerebral haemorrhage, hospital-related complications and 90-day mortality. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale will be adopted to assess risk bias of observational studies. Th...

Stroke prevention of thoracoscopic left atrial appendage clipping in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation at high risk of stroke and bleeding: study protocol for a non-randomised controlled clinical trial
Introduction Non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) is a high-risk factor for ischaemic stroke. The 2016 European Society of Cardiology Atrial Fibrillation Management guidelines recommend oral anticoagulants (OACs) to prevent stroke in men with CHA2DS2-VASc scores ≥2 and women ≥3. However, in patients with a high risk of stroke and a high risk of bleeding (HAS-BLED (Hypertension, Abnormal renal/liver function, Stroke, Bleeding history or predisposition, Labile international normalized ratio, Elderly (> 65 years), Drugs/alcohol concomitantly) score≥3), OAC had a higher risk of bleeding. Left atrial appendage cl...

Combined prognostic significance of white blood cell count and D-dimer on in-hospital outcomes of acute ischemic stroke
The prognostic significance of combination of white blood cell (WBC) and D-dimer on acute ischemic stroke (AIS) remains to be explored. We aimed to investigate the combined effect of WBC and D-dimer levels on in-hospital outcomes of AIS patients.

Associations between short-term exposure of PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > constituents and hospital admissions of cardiovascular diseases among 18 major Chinese cities
This study aimed to investigate the association between short-term exposure of PM2.5 constituents and hospital admissions of CVD. Daily counts of city-specific hospital admissions for CVD in 18 cities in China between 2014 and 2017 were extracted from the national Urban Employee Basic Medical Insurance database and the Beijing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning Information Center database. Directly measured PM2.5 constituents, including ions and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, were collected by the Chinese Environmental Public Health Tracking system. We used the time-stratified case-crossover design to es...
