Nicotine Treatment Ameliorates Blood-Brain Barrier Damage After Acute Ischemic Stroke by Regulating Endothelial Scaffolding Protein Pdlim5
AbstractAnalysis of a National Institutes of Health (NIH) trial shows that cigarette smoking protected tissue plasminogen activator (tPA)-treated patients from hemorrhage transformation (HT); however, the underlying mechanism is not clear. Damage to the integrity of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is the pathological basis of HT. Here, we investigated the molecular events of BBB damage after acute ischemic stroke (AIS) usingin vitro oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) andin vivo mice middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) models. Our results showed that the permeability of bEND.3 monolayer endothelial cells was significantly i...

Observational Study of Patients Hospitalized With Neurologic Events After SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination, December 2020-June 2021
Discussion All cases in this study were determined to have at least 1 risk factor and/or known etiology accounting for their neurologic syndromes. Our comprehensive clinical review of these cases supports the safety of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines.

Peroxiredoxin-3 Plays a Neuroprotective Role in Early Brain Injury after Experimental Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in Rats
In conclusion, PRDX3 participates in neuronal protection by inhibiting the neuronal mitochondria-mediated death pathway; PRDX3 may be an important target for EBI intervention after SAH.PMID:36566946 | DOI:10.1016/j.brainresbull.2022.12.010

Regulation of Ncbe in the Choroid Plexus of Mice after Hemorrhage-Induced Hydrocephalus
FASEB J. 2022 May;36 Suppl 1. doi: 10.1096/fasebj.2022.36.S1.R3405.ABSTRACTThe choroid plexus (CP) is a small tissue located inside brain ventricles. It is responsible for the production of most of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF); approximately 500 mL of CSF per day in the adult human [1, 2]. CSF production occurs as a net result of transcellular movement of salt and water, carried out by various cellular transporters. Ncbe is a sodium-coupled bicarbonate transporter located in the basolateral membrane of the choroid plexus epithelial (CPE) cells. It transports Na+ and HCO3 - into the cell in exchange for Cl- . Ncbe is the m...

Molecular and pathological characterization of natural co-infection of poultry farms with the recently emerged Leucocytozoon caulleryi and chicken anemia virus in Egypt
AbstractIn the summers of 2018 and 2019, a disease outbreak stroke 25 broiler chicken farms and 3 broiler breeder farms in different Governorates in Egypt. The disease caused a mortality rate ranging from 3.2 to 9%. Postmortem examination showed petechial hemorrhage in the breast and thigh muscles, thymus gland, and peritoneal cavity and extensive hemorrhages in the kidneys. A total of 140 liver, kidney, lung, skeletal muscles, thymus, and spleen samples were collected. Twenty-eight pooled samples were created and examined by PCR and histopathological examination to identify the causative pathogens. All collected samples w...
