Effects of sotatercept on haemodynamics and right heart function: analysis of the STELLAR trial
Conclusion In pre-treated patients with PAH, sotatercept demonstrated substantial improvements in PA pressures, PA compliance, PA–RV coupling and right heart function.

Quantifying COPD as a risk factor for cardiac disease in a primary prevention cohort
Conclusions In a large real-world population without CVD, people with physician-diagnosed COPD were 25% more likely to have a major CVD event, after adjustment for CVD risk and other factors. This rate is comparable to the rate in people with diabetes and calls for more aggressive CVD primary prevention in the COPD population.

Establishing minimally important differences for cardiac MRI end-points in pulmonary arterial hypertension
Conclusions This study establishes clinically relevant CMR MIDs for how a patient "feels, functions or survives" in response to PAH treatment. These findings provide further support for the use of CMR as a clinically relevant clinical outcome measure and will aid trial size calculations for studies using CMR.

Statement on Tobacco 21 from the European Respiratory Society Tobacco Control Committee
Tobacco consumption is the most significant cause of premature death across the European Union (EU) and is responsible for 700 000 deaths every year. Smokers are more likely than nonsmokers to develop lung cancer, COPD, coronary artery disease, stroke, diabetes, infertility and many other conditions [1]. According to Eurostat, 18.4% of people aged 15 years and over in the EU were daily smokers in 2019 [2]. Across Europe, the minimum age of sale of tobacco products is 18 years as per the obligations of the World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC).

While we agree that there is no universally accepted definition of major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE), the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency include nonfatal myocardial infarction and stroke as well as cardiovascular (CV) mortality in their MACE definition [1]. Combination therapy with long-acting bronchodilators and the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with COPD: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion Compared with ICS/LABA, dual LAMA/LABA or triple therapy increases cardiovascular risk in patients with COPD. This should be considered in the context of the incremental benefits of these therapies for symptoms and exacerbation rates in patients with COPD, especially in those with a MACE risk of >1% per year.

Association of obstructive sleep apnoea with cardiovascular events in women and men with acute coronary syndrome
Conclusions In hospitalised ACS patients, OSA was associated with increased risk of subsequent events, particularly among women. Female patients with ACS should not be neglected for OSA screening and dedicated intervention studies focusing on women with ACS and comorbid OSA should be prioritised.

COPD and COVID-19: a dangerous association?
Conclusion: COPDs patients are mostly ederly men with comorbidities. The most effective treatment for them was stabilization of comorbidities and conventional oxygen and for the most severe Helmet-CPAP and NIV. In addition, COPD patients had no higher risk of mortality from COVID-19 than individuals without a pre-existing diagnosis of COPD.

Air leak in Covid 19: experience from a DGH in the UK
Conclusions: Inpatient incidence of PTX and PM is still approximately 1%. Survival is better as overall Covid19 survival improves(direct mortality from air leak approx. 21 %) with mortality due to other factors rather than the air leak.

Interrelationships between body mass index, total IgE, and blood eosinophils count in healthy subjects
Conclusion: This study showed an independent relationship between B-Eos count and total IgE in healthy subjects. When adjusted for total IgE, the association between B-Eos count and BMI disappeared whereas the association with current smoking remained, indicating possible different mechanisms underlying increased B-Eos count upon these exposures.

Cardiovascular response to exercise in preterm-born children with and without low lung function
Conclusions: Despite being at risk of reduced exercise tolerance, preterm-born children with low lung function show comparable cardiovascular response to exercise to preterm-born and term-born controls.

Impact of cardiovascular disease on in-hospital mortality in patients with COVID-19
Conclusion: COVID-19 patients with CVD comorbidites have a higher risk of in-hospital death. Optimal care and good control of CVD are essential in this patient group.

Registry on the treatment of central and complex sleep-disordered breathing with adaptive servo-ventilation (READ-ASV): cohort profile
Conclusion: Most of the participants had severe sleep apnoea, while disease specific quality of life was modestly impaired. TE-CSA and CSA in cardiovascular disease were the most common indications for ASV.

Ultrasound guided(USG) trucut biopsy of the pleura, lymph nodes and chest wall/subcutaneous lesions performed by respiratory physicians
Conclusion: Trained respiratory physician are able to safely run US guided biopsy service. This would increase capacity, reduce the diagnostic delays and obviate the need for invasive procedures. Our diagnostic accuracy is similar to previous studies performed.
