Hypertension, Acute Stent Thrombosis, and Paraplegia 6  Months after Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair for Blunt Thoracic Aortic Injury in a 22-Year-Old Patient
Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is a less invasive option for managing traumatic injuries of the descending aorta in polytraumatized patients. Concerns arise when treating young patients with TEVAR. A 22-year-old male was admitted to the emergency department following a high-impact road traffic collision. Whole-body computed tomography (CT) scan documented multiple injuries, including rupture of descending thoracic aorta just below the isthmus. There was no evidence of paraplegia or stroke.

Early carotid endarterectomy provides a better neurological outcome in symptomatic patients. A single center experience
Many studies confirmed the role of early carotid endarterectomy to prevent recurrent stroke or transient ischemic attack however the mid-long term neurological benefit is still not completely investigated. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the role of early carotid endarterectomy on the peri and post-operative stroke/death complications of patients with a symptomatic carotid stenosisMaterial and methods: ninety consecutive patients were referred to our center for a symptomatic carotid stenosis.

Early Carotid Endarterectomy Provides a Better Neurological Outcome in Symptomatic Patients: A Single-Center Experience
Many studies confirmed the role of early carotid endarterectomy (CEA) to prevent recurrent stroke or transient ischemic attack; however, the mid-long-term neurological benefit is still not completely investigated. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the role of early CEA on the perioperative and postoperative stroke/death complications of patients with a symptomatic carotid stenosis.

Bilateral Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion, External Carotid Artery Stenosis, and Vertebral Artery Kinking: May It Be Asymptomatic?
The clinical spectrum of internal carotid artery occlusion ranges from being a completely asymptomatic occlusion to a devastating stroke or death. The prevalence of asymptomatic internal carotid artery occlusion is unknown, particularly for bilateral occlusion. The distal branches of the external carotid artery anastomose with distal branches of the internal carotid artery provide important sources of collateral circulation to the brain. Stenosis of the external carotid artery with ipsilateral/bilateral internal occlusion may result in ischemic sequelae.

Acute facial necrosis due to an extensive carotid thrombosis
The face is richly vascularized by arteries which develop multiple anastomoses between their terminal branches, and most these arteries originate from the external carotid artery.1 Facial necrosis due to an extensive carotid thrombosis was never described in the literature. We observed the case of a 62 years old man who presented an extensive facial necrosis due to carotid thrombosis. Angio-CT confirmed the diagnosis and the patient died following a massive stroke with cerebral engagement. His only risk factor was a massive tobacco addiction (40 pack-years).

Safety of early carotid endarterectomy after intravenous thrombolysis in acute ischemic stroke
The timing of carotid endarterectomy (CEA) after intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) is still a controversial issue. The aim of this study was to assess the safety of early carotid interventions in patients treated with thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke.

Symptomatic Carotid-bulb Atypical Fibromuscular Dysplasia.
Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD) is known as rare cause ischemic stroke, and usually involves the internal carotid or vertebral arteries in middle age women. A poorly known type of FMD located at the carotid bulb is called atypical fibromuscular dysplasia.

Computational Fluid-Dynamic Analysis After Carotid Endarterectomy: Patch Graft Versus Direct Suture Closure
Closure tecnique after carotid endarterectomy (CEA) still remains an issue of debate. Routinely use of patch graft (PG) has been advocated to reduce restenosis, stroke, and death but its protective effect, particularly from late restenosis, is less evident and recent studies call into question this thesis.

Safety of Carotid Revascularization During the Acute Period of Neurological Symptom Onset in Women
Benefit from carotid revascularization is supposed to be lower in women due to increased periprocedural risks. The aim of this study was to investigate the risk of stroke/death after carotid intervention in women treated within 15 days from last neurological event.

Symptomatic Carotid-Bulb Atypical Fibromuscular Dysplasia
We present the case of 3 young black patients suffering from recurrent ischemic strokes in the same middle cerebral artery territory. Computed tomographic angiography and arteriography showed a moderate diaphragmatic stenosis of the carotid bulb. After surgical removal of the dysplasia, postoperative course was uneventful without any recurrence.

Contemporary Characteristics and Outcomes of Young Patients (under 50 years) Undergoing Open Carotid Artery Surgery
Stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide, with 10% of neurological events occurring in adults 18-49. The incidence in this age group has risen over the last two decades (while falling in the aged), despite improved diagnostic capacity and greater ability to treat it medically and surgically. We are unaware of any modern data regarding the risk factors and outcomes after carotid artery surgery in this demographic. We sought to evaluate the contemporary characteristics and outcomes of young adults undergoing carotid surgery.
