Timing of Hospital-acquired Venous Thromboembolism and Its Relationship with Venous Thromboembolism Prevention Measures in Immobile Patients
The aim of this study is to describe the timing of venous thromboembolism (VTE) diagnosis in patients with cerebral or spinal trauma and stroke and describe the relationships between VTE prophylaxis and timing of VTE diagnosis at a community hospital.

Transfemoral Carotid Artery Stents Should Be Used with Caution in Patients with Asymptomatic Carotid Artery Stenosis
Significant national variation exists in defining the degree of stenosis that requires intervention in patients with asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis (ACAS). We aimed to evaluate the risk of perioperative- and 2-year stroke and death in ACAS patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and carotid artery stenting (CAS) for severe versus very severe stenosis in a contemporary population.

Carotid Artery Entrapment by the Hyoid Bone —A Rare Cause of Recurrent Strokes in a Young Patient
We report a case of recurrent strokes in a 32-year-old woman due to an elongated hyoid bone causing thrombus formation in her right internal carotid artery (ICA), resulting in recurrent embolic strokes confirmed on diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging.

Predicting factors associated with postoperative hypotension following carotid artery stenting
The objective of this study is to determine the factors associated with hypotension following CAS. In particular, this study evaluates whether involvement of the carotid bifurcation/bulb and degree of calcification can predict postoperative hypotension.

Limited Clinical Relevance of Vertebral Artery Injury in Blunt Trauma
Blunt cerebrovascular injury (BCVI), although rare, is more common than previously thought and carries a substantial stroke and mortality risk. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the differences between blunt carotid artery (CA) and vertebral artery (VA) injuries, assess the stroke and death rates related to these injuries, and identify the relationship of Injury Severity Score (ISS) with stroke and mortality in BCVI.

Carotid Artery Entrapment by Hyoid Bone —A Rare Cause of Recurrent Strokes in a Young Patient
The search for etiology of stroke in a young patient may present a diagnostic challenge. In rare cases, chronic external trauma to the carotid may be the cause of cerebral thromboembolic events. The hyoid bone lies in close proximity to the carotid artery bifurcation, and anatomic variants have been implicated in carotid compression, stenosis, dissection, and pseudoaneurysm.

Concomitant Hybrid Arch Vessel Reconstruction and Intracranial Clot Retrieval in Takayasu's Arteritis Presenting  with Acute Cerebral Ischemia: A Case Report
Type 1 Takayasu's arteritis (TA) predominantly affects the supra-aortic branches. Occlusive disease can cause catastrophic complications such as stroke and death. Open and endovascular techniques of revascularization are described for extracranial disease. There is currently no default choice of surgical intervention. Furthermore, the management of distal intracranial complications has not been described.

The “Eternal Recurrence” of Arteritis. Suggesting Autoimmunity Underlining Friedrich Nietzsche's Challenging Clinical Case
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (R öcken 1844 -Weimar 1900), the philosopher who theorized the concept of “eternal recurrence”, suffered a lifelong multifaceted chronic illness that started in pediatric age with severe headaches and ended up with stroke at the age of 56. Even though many hypothetical diagnosis have been proposed in recent years, they all failed to explain the totality of clinical conditions that co-occurred in the philosopher's extremely challenging case, and debate on the matter is still open.
