P-001 Residual in-stent carotid stenosis and cigarette smoking are predictors of restenosis after stenting (CAS)
ConclusionWe present the largest single-center data in the US to date on carotid artery stenosis treated with CAS, and factors associated with restenosis. Residual in-stent carotid stenosis and smoking history were independent predictors. Maximizing treatment of initial stenosis within stent for carefully selected patients and aggressive smoking cessation education are important steps in preventing future carotid restenosis.Abstract P-001 Figure 1Carotid restenosis after carotid arty tenting (%) by categories of degree of residual stenosis after initial procedure (a), and by cutpoint of 29% (b)Disclosures P. Systemic lupus erythematosus associated with development of macrophage activation syndrome and disseminated aspergillosis
CONCLUSIONS: Four features of this case merit discussion, including the: 1) infrequent association of SLE with MAS; 2) short interval between SLE diagnosis and critical illness; 3) manifestation of fungal tracheobronchitis with airway obstruction; and 4) lack of response to antifungal treatment while receiving ECMO.PMID:37349668 | DOI:10.1007/s12630-023-02506-2

When does life end? New organ donation strategy fuels debate
On a chilly holiday Monday in January 2020, a medical milestone passed largely unnoticed. In a New York City operating room, surgeons gently removed the heart from a 43-year-old man who had died and shuttled it steps away to a patient in desperate need of a new one. More than 3500 people in the United States receive a new heart each year. But this case was different—the first of its kind in the country. “It took us 6 months to prepare,” says Nader Moazami, surgical head of heart transplantation at New York University (NYU) Langone Health, where the operation took place. The run-up included oversight from an ethi...

Intracranial Hemorrhage as a Marker for Mycotic Aneurysm in Patients With Infective Endocarditis
Discussion Patients with left-sided and right-sided endocarditis with PFO and ICH on CNS imaging were more likely to have mycotic aneurysms detected through DSA than similar patients without ICH. Routine DSA screening for mycotic aneurysms may not be required in patients with endocarditis undergoing evaluation for valve surgery who present without ICH on CNS imaging.

Peripheral eosinophil trends and clinical outcomes after non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage
ConclusionThis study demonstrated that a delayed increase in eosinophils after SAH occurs and may contribute to functional outcomes. The mechanism of this effect and the relationship with SAH pathophysiology merit further investigation.

Relevance of admission hyperglycaemia and diabetes mellitus to efficacy and safety of mechanical thrombectomy in stroke patients
CONCLUSIONS: Diabetes mellitus has a neutral effect on the angiographic and clinical outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy in stroke patients. It does not increase the risk of intracranial haemorrhage after instrumental therapy. It is admission hyperglycaemia, rather than diabetes mellitus, that is a predictor of poor functional status in patients treated with thrombectomy. According to our results, the patient's neurological status, age, and the outcome of thrombectomy are relevant to the functional status in the acute ischaemic stroke period.PMID:36394219 | DOI:10.5603/PJNNS.a2022.0063

Stroke Recurrence in Children with Vertebral Artery Dissecting Aneurysm PEDIATRICS
CONCLUSIONS: Vertebral artery dissecting aneurysm is often missed on the initial diagnostic evaluation of children presenting with stroke. In children with vertebral artery dissection, the presence of an aneurysm is associated with stroke presentation at a younger age and stroke recurrence.

Association between carotid artery dissection and vascular tortuosity: a case –control study
ConclusionVT appears to be associated with an increased risk of dissection for the carotid district but not for the vertebral one. The different structure, embryogenesis, and pathophysiology of dissection between the two districts could explain this finding. VTI threshold as carotid artery dissection predictor deserves confirmation in larger studies.

Left Atrial Appendage Depth and Tachycardia Bradycardia Syndrome as Important Predictors of Left Atrial Appendage Thrombus in Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSION: In NVAF patients with LAAT, evidence suggested that larger LAAD, non-PAF, and TBS present a high risk of LAAT. This is the first report demonstrating that the LAAD and TBS are associated with LAAT in patients with NVAF.PMID:35401785 | PMC:PMC8986422 | DOI:10.1155/2022/4632823
