Stroke Code Simulation Lab; Save Time Save Brain! (P2.375)
CONCLUSIONS: The stroke code simulation lab met its objectives of improving the neurology residents’ knowledge and experience managing stroke codes. It was perceived as a valuable exercise. Placental Pathology in Neonatal Stroke: A Retrospective Case-Control Study (I15.009)
Conclusions: Major placental abnormalities were common in stroke cases relative to controls, with trends towards different patterns in arterial versus venous stroke. Many findings were subacute to chronic and reflect intrauterine stressors that may predispose to acute stroke in the perinatal period. This cross-sectional retrospective clinical research study examines a large group of children followed within a pediatric stroke program and a developmental attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) clinic at the Hospital for Sick Children, between May 2004 and June 2016. All children with a history of stroke who participated in a neuropsychological assessment between the ages of 4 and 18 years were considered for inclusion. A resident boot camp for reducing door-to-needle times at academic medical centers
Conclusions:
DTN times were reduced after the implementation of a stroke boot camp and were driven primarily by efficient resident stroke code management. Educational programs should be developed for health care providers involved in acute stroke patient care to improve rapid access to IV tPA at academic institutions.

Interventions for acute stroke management in Africa: a systematic review of the evidence
ConclusionEvidence from this review confirms the widespread assertion of low applicability and uptake of evidence-based acute stroke care in LMICs. Despite the limited eligible studies, the overall positive patient outcomes following such interventions demonstrate the applicability and value of evidence-based acute stroke care interventions in Africa. Health policy attention is thus required to ensure widespread applicability of such interventions for improved patients ’ outcomes. Acupuncture for acute stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: This updated review indicates that apparently improved outcomes with acupuncture in acute stroke are confounded by the risk of bias related to use of open controls. Adverse events related to acupuncture were reported to be minor and usually did not result in stopping treatment. Future studies are needed to confirm or refute any effects of acupuncture in acute stroke. Evidence-Based Practice Implementation in Stroke Rehabilitation: A Scoping Review of Barriers and Facilitators.
CONCLUSION AND RELEVANCE: Although the stroke rehabilitation literature appears to have established the barriers to and facilitators of EBP implementation, greater attention to the identification of effective implementation strategies that promote the uptake of EBPs by occupational therapy practitioners is needed.

Factors that Influence Door-to-Needle Administration for Acute Stroke Patients in the Emergency Department
CONCLUSION: Although many factors can influence door-to-needle times in the ED, we did not find National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score on arrival and time of day to be significant factors. Patients arriving to the ED by personal vehicle will have a significant delay in IV alteplase administration, therefore emphasizing the importance of using emergency medical services. Predictive Factors for the Need of Tracheostomy in Patients With Large Vessel Occlusion Stroke Being Treated With Mechanical Thrombectomy
Conclusions: Patients with LVOS undergoing MT are at high risk to require TS if extubation after the intervention fails, DH is needed, and severe infectious complications occur in the acute phase after ischemic stroke. These factors are likely to be useful for the indication and timing of TS to reduce overall sedation and shorten ICU length of stay.

Statin and dual antiplatelet therapy for the prevention of early neurological deterioration and recurrent stroke in branch atheromatous disease: a protocol for a prospective single-arm study using a historical control for comparison
Introduction
Branch atheromatous disease (BAD) contributes to small-vessel occlusion in cases of occlusion or stenosis of large calibre penetrating arteries, and it is associated with a higher possibility of early neurological deterioration (END) and recurrent stroke in acute ischaemic stroke. As the pathology of BAD is due to atherosclerosis, we postulate that early intensive medical treatment with dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) and high-intensity statins may prevent END and recurrent stroke in acute small subcortical infarction caused by BAD.
