At the Intersection of Race, Socioeconomics, and Chronic Illness: A Case and Frame Analysis of Two Survivor-Caregiver Dyads in the Aftermath of Stroke
This article uses a "case and frame" approach, through the lens of ecological systems theory, to illustrate how social determinants of health express themselves in two stroke survivor-caregiver dyads living in a large Midwestern city. We draw out implications for practice and policy in social work and related disciplines that focus on recognizing the impact of social determinants of health, developing culturally-specific interventions that mitigate unique stressors but that also leverage unique strengths, and building capacity for cultural competence and cross-cultural health communication within organizations.PMID:3448649...

PCV54 To Evaluate the Medication Persistence of Direct Oral Anticoagulants Among Patients with Atrial Fibrillation, Hypertension, Diabetes and Hyperlipidemia
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is an independent risk factor of stroke, the most common disability in the United States. When used adequately, Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) substantially reduce the stroke events in patients with AF. Despite documented beneficial effects of anticoagulation therapy, poor persistence to DOACs is widely reported potentially due to the lack of frequent laboratory monitoring. Comorbidities frequently associated with AF include hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia, which further increase morbidity and mortality.

High blood pressure during pregnancy associated with more bothersome menopause symptoms
(The North American Menopause Society (NAMS)) Women with high blood pressure during pregnancy are at an increased risk for chronic hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, stroke, and early cardiovascular death. A new study suggests that they may also be at risk for more bothersome menopause symptoms, including hot flashes. Geospatial analysis of Mediterranean diet adherence in the United States.
CONCLUSIONS: There were significant geospatial and population disparities in MD adherence across the US regions. Future studies are needed to explore the causes of MD adherence disparities and develop effective interventions for MD promotion in the USA.
