Dairy consumption and mortality after myocardial infarction: a prospective analysis in the Alpha Omega Cohort
CONCLUSIONS: In Dutch post-MI patients, yogurt consumption was inversely associated with CVD mortality and all-cause mortality. Response to: “Arrhythmia paradox in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia”
We read the letter by Mirzaee and Cameron with great interest. We recently assessed the prognostic impact of clinically diagnosed familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) on long-term adverse cardiovascular outcomes in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention for chronic and acute coronary syndromes. In our cohort, patients with probable or definite FH according to the Dutch Lipid Clinic Network faced a significant, approximate 2-fold increased risk for subsequent atherothrombotic events (death, myocardial infarction, or stroke) during a 6-year period of follow-up compared with patients with possible or unlikely FH.

Trends in mortality, cardiovascular complications, and risk factors in type 2 diabetes.
CONCLUSION: Despite highly organised diabetes care, excess incident cardiovascular events and mortality due to T2DM did not decrease over the study period. Life expectancy of T2DM patients is significantly reduced and risk factor control is suboptimal. This suggests there is considerable room for improvement of diabetes care in the Netherlands. Long-term effects of intensive multifactorial therapy in individuals with screen-detected type 2 diabetes in primary care: 10-year follow-up of the ADDITION-Europe cluster-randomised trial
In this report, we did a post-hoc analysis of cardiovascular and renal outcomes over 10 years following randomisation, including a 5 years post-intervention follow-up. As in the original trial, the primary endpoint was a composite of first cardiovascular event, including cardiovascular mortality, cardiovascular morbidity (non-fatal myocardial infarction and non-fatal stroke), revascularisation, and non-traumatic amputation, up to Dec 31, 2014. Design and rationale of ischaemia-driven complete revascularisation versus usual care in patients with non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction and multivessel coronary disease: the South Limburg Myocardial Infarction (SLIM) trial.

Association Between Primary Care Practitioner Empathy and Risk of Cardiovascular Events and All-Cause Mortality Among Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: A Population-Based Prospective Cohort Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Positive patient experiences of practitioner empathy in the year after diagnosis of type 2 diabetes may be associated with beneficial long-term clinical outcomes. Further work is needed to understand which aspects of patient perceptions of empathy might influence health outcomes and how to incorporate this understanding into the education and training of practitioners. Conclusion: Intracranial artery calcification is common in patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease and the intracranial carotid artery is most frequently affected. Intracranial arterial calcifications might be associated with imaging markers of SVD and are highly correlated with WMHs, lacunes, and CMBs. Canagliflozin Inhibits Human Endothelial Cell Proliferation and Tube Formation
In conclusion, the present study identified canagliflozin as a potent inhibitor of human EC proliferation. The anti-proliferative action of canagliflozin is observed in ECs isolated from both the venous and arterial circulation, and is partly due to the blockade of cyclin A expression. In addition, this study found that canagliflozin inhibits tube formation in cultured ECs and mouse aortic rings. Notably, these actions are specific for canagliflozin and not seen with other SGLT2 inhibitors. Sickle Cell Disease Subjects Have a Distinct Abnormal Autonomic Phenotype Characterized by Peripheral Vasoconstriction With Blunted Cardiac Response to Head-Up Tilt
Conclusion We have shown that SCD subjects are much more likely than non-SCD subjects to have impaired cardiac, but intact peripheral responses to orthostatic stress induced by HUT. These abnormal responses are associated with low baseline cardiac parasympathetic activity, independent of hemoglobin level.
