Roche ’s BTK inhibitor fenebrutinib significantly reduced brain lesions in people with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis
Fenebrutinib is an investigational, potent and highly selective oralBruton ’s tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor, the only reversible BTK inhibitor currently in Phase III multiple sclerosis (MS) trialsPhase II study met its primary and secondary endpoints by reducing the total number of new gadolinium-enhancing T1 brain lesions and significantly reducing the total number of new or enlarging T2 brain lesions compared to placeboThe safety profile offenebrutinib was consistent with previous and ongoing clinical trials across more than 2,400 people to dateBasel, 17 May 2023 - Roche (SIX: RO, ROG; OTCQX: RHHBY) announced today p...

Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 gene ( < em > FLT1 < /em > ) longevity variant increases lifespan by reducing mortality risk posed by hypertension
In conclusion, the longevity-associated genotype of FLT1 may confer increased lifespan by protecting against mortality risk posed by hypertension. We suggest that FLT1 expression in individuals with longevity genotype boosts vascular endothelial resilience mechanisms to counteract hypertension-related stress in vital organs and tissues.PMID:37178326 | DOI:10.18632/aging.204722

Frailty and subsequent adverse outcomes in older patients with atrial fibrillation treated with oral anticoagulants: The Shizuoka study
CONCLUSION: Patients with frailty in whom OAC therapy is initiated have higher risk of bleeding, highlighting the importance of discussing this increased risk with patients with AF who have frailty and assessing frailty at the time of OAC initiation.PMID:37168397 | PMC:PMC10165150 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2023.100129

Epidemiology of Diabetes and Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Among Asian American Adults: Implications, Management, and Future Directions: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association
Circulation. 2023 May 8. doi: 10.1161/CIR.0000000000001145. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAsian American individuals make up the fastest growing racial and ethnic group in the United States. Despite the substantial variability that exists in type 2 diabetes and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk among the different subgroups of Asian Americans, the current literature, when available, often fails to examine these subgroups individually. The purpose of this scientific statement is to summarize the latest disaggregated data, when possible, on Asian American demographics, prevalence, biological mechanisms, genetics, h...

Detailed phenotype of < em > RNF213 < /em > p.R4810K variant identified by the Chinese patients with acute ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack
CONCLUSIONS: The RNF213 p.R4810K variant was associated with LAA, anterior circulation stenosis and ECAS in Chinese patients. Given the low carrying rate and only 1-year follow-up information, caution should be taken to interpret our findings in no statistically significant association between the p.R4810K variant and stroke prognosis in Chinese patients.PMID:37137523 | DOI:10.1136/svn-2022-002276

P-wave terminal force in lead V1 and atrial fibrillation burden in cryptogenic stroke with implantable loop recorders
AbstractImplantable loop recorders (ILRs) are useful for the detection of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with cryptogenic stroke (CS). P-wave terminal force in lead V1 (PTFV1) is associated with AF detection; however, data on the association between PTFV1 and AF detection using ILRs in patients with CS are limited. Consecutive patients with CS with implanted ILRs from September 2016 to September 2020 at eight hospitals in Japan were studied. PTFV1 was calculated by 12-lead ECG before ILRs implantation. An abnormal PTFV1 was defined as  ≥ 4.0 mV × ms. The AF burden was calculated as a proportion based on t...
