Can a media campaign change health service use in a population with stroke symptoms? Examination of the first Irish stroke awareness campaign
Conclusions This first Irish F.A.S.T. campaign had an initial impact on ED attendance of patients with stroke symptoms. However, the campaign effects were not sustained in the long term. Results indicate that prehospital delay in accessing acute stroke services is a complex process with involvement of factors other than stroke knowledge and intention to call 911.

Inclusion of stroke patients in expanded cardiac rehabilitation services: a cross-national qualitative study with cardiac and stroke rehabilitation professionals.
CONCLUSIONS: Hybrid cardiac rehabilitation programmes could be tailored to deliver stroke-specific education, exercises and multidisciplinary expertise. Post-stroke cognitive impairment was identified as a key barrier to participation in cardiac rehabilitation. A cognitive rehabilitation intervention could potentially be delivered as part of cardiac rehabilitation, to address the cognitive needs of stroke and cardiac patients. ConclusionIn summary while our hospital is succeeding in getting the vast majority of diagnosed strokes into our stroke unit we are not currently meeting the UK target for early swallow screening. We aim to roll out an education and training programme targeting nurses and doctors in our stroke unit regarding early swallow screening and re-audit this in 6-12 month ’s time.

ConclusionCCDs are highly prevalent and represented the largest subtype of communication disorders in this cohort. FIMFAM scores appear useful in assessing CCDs however they display insufficient sensitivity in capturing change within this population. This audit highlights the need for further interdisciplinary research, education and training into cognitive-communication difficulties with post-stroke populations.
