How To Avoid China ’ s Medicine Monopoly
I want to share a shocking statistic with you… Around 80% of all the pharmaceuticals sold in America — both prescription and over-the-counter — are manufactured in China. I’m talking about drugs for Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, blood pressure and blood thinners, diuretics, aspirin, antibiotics, and a big chunk of the world’s insulin and diabetes drugs — just to name a few.1 We don’t even make penicillin anymore. The last penicillin plant in the U.S. closed its doors in 2004. Americans who rely on medicine are now almost entirely at the mercy of a country whose relations with the U.S. have become more ...

Statins may Decrease Aneurysm wall Enhancement of Unruptured Fusiform Intracranial Aneurysms: A high-resolution 3T MRI Study
AbstractInflammation plays an integral role in the formation, growth, and progression to rupture of unruptured intracranial aneurysms. Aneurysm wall enhancement (AWE) in high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI) has emerged as a surrogate biomarker of vessel wall inflammation and unruptured intracranial aneurysm instability. We investigated the correlation between anti-inflammatory drug use and three-dimensional AWE of fusiform intracranial aneurysms (FIAs). We retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients with FIAs in our database who underwent 3T HR-MRI at three Chinese centers. FIAs were classified as fusiform...

CYP2C19 Loss-of-Function Variants Associated with Long-term Ischemic Stroke Events During Clopidogrel Treatment in the Chinese Population
This study aims to determine whether CYP2C19 loss-of-function (LoF) variants were associated with long-term ischemic stroke risk in Chinese primary care patients treated with clopidogrel. Patients treated with clopidogrel were ascertained from a Chinese Electronic Medical Record linked with biobank for a retrospective cohort study. Their medical information was examined for the period from January 2018 to December 2021. Two CYP2C19 major loss of function variants (*2:rs4244285, *3: rs4986893) were genotyped. The clinical outcome was ischemic stroke event. Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between...

Statins influence the relationship between ATP-binding cassette A1 membrane transporter-mediated cholesterol efflux capacity and coronary atherosclerosis in rheumatoid arthritis
CONCLUSION: In patients with RA, higher ABCA1-CEC may reflect a proatherogenic state, associated with enhanced cardiovascular risk. Statin use may unmask the protective impact of ABCA1-mediated cholesterol efflux on plaque formation, progression and cardiovascular risk.PMID:37484708 | PMC:PMC10362327 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtauto.2023.100206

Increased Serum EphrinA1 Is Associated With Parenchymal Hematoma (PH) After Ischemic Stroke
Conclusion Higher serum EphrinA1 is independently associated with higher risk of PH after ischemic stroke. Future studies with larger sa mple size are needed to validate our findings and elucidate the potential role of EphrinA1 in PH.

Development and validation of predictive model based on deep learning method for classification of dyslipidemia in Chinese medicine
ConclusionsThis study successfully developed a well-performing classification prediction model for dyslipidemia with MOPS, transforming the syndrome diagnosis problem in TCM into a prediction and classification problem in artificial intelligence. Patients with dyslipidemia of MOPS can be accurately recognized through limited information from patients. We also screened out significant diagnostic factors for composing diagnostic rules of dyslipidemia with MOPS. The study is an avant-garde attempt at introducing the deep-learning method into the research of TCM, which provides a useful reference for the extension of deep lear...

Development and validation of dynamic models to predict postdischarge mortality risk in patients with acute myocardial infarction: results from China Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry
Conclusions We established dynamic risk prediction models incorporating adverse event and medications. The nomograms may be useful instruments to help prospective risk assessment and management of AMI. Trial registration number NCT01874691.

Evaluation and subgroup analysis of the efficacy and safety of intensive rosuvastatin therapy combined with dual antiplatelet therapy in patients with acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionsWithout increasing bleeding and statin-associated adverse events, intensive rosuvastatin therapy plus 7-day DAPT significantly reduced the risk of recurrent stroke, especially for subgroups with high-risk factors.Clinical trial registration. Natural products of traditional Chinese medicine treat atherosclerosis by regulating inflammatory and oxidative stress pathways
This study aimed to update and summarize progress in understanding how natural medicines treat AS via inflammatory and oxidative stress-related signaling pathways. We also planned to create an information base for the development of novel drugs for future AS treatment.PMID:36249778 | PMC:PMC9563010 | DOI:10.3389/fphar.2022.997598
