Efficacy and safety of vagus nerve stimulation on upper extremity motor function in patients with stroke: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSION: For stroke victims with upper limb disabilities, VNS paired with rehabilitation was significantly safe and effective. More high-quality multicentric RCTs are needed to validate this conclusion.PMID:37694313 | DOI:10.3233/NRE-230106

Sensory deficits of the paretic and non-paretic upper limbs relate with the motor recovery of the poststroke subjects
CONCLUSION: In stroke, sensory deficits relate weakly with the recovery of the paretic upper limb and can predict recovery potential of the paretic upper limb.PMID:37690032 | DOI:10.1080/10749357.2023.2253629

Global and national burden of atherosclerosis from 1990 to 2019: trend analysis based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019
CONCLUSIONS: From 1990 to 2019, there was an overall increasing trend in the global incidence of all three clinical manifestations of atherosclerosis. Between 1990 and 2019, both the mortality rate and DALYs for IHD and ischemic stroke declined across all age groups. Overall, the burden of atherosclerosis-related diseases has not significantly decreased and even shows signs of trending upward. These findings strongly suggest that despite some progress made, efforts to control atherosclerosis diseases globally need to be intensified.PMID:37677929 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002839

Serum biomarkers to predict hemorrhagic transformation and ischemic stroke outcomes in a prospective cohort study
This study aimed to investigate the potential prognosis role of non-specific laboratory data at admission and baseline MMP-2 and MMP-9 serum levels in predicting HT risk, discharge, and 3-month follow-up status of IS patients. Data from 150 successive acute cerebral infarction patients were analyzed in a prospective cohort study. The active group included patients who developed HT during hospitalization (55 persons). There were no significant differences in age, gender distribution, time to admission, or time to blood sample collection for MMPs measurement between patients in the active and control groups. IS patients from...
