Association between polymorphisms in connexin 40 gene (Cx40) and risk of atrial fibrillation: a meta-analysis based on 3,452 subjects
CONCLUSIONS: The Cx40 polymorphisms were positively associated with AF in both populations, especially on -44 polymorphism.PMID:37382580 | DOI:10.1080/1354750X.2023.2227361

Association of brain microbleeds with risk factors, cognition, and MRI markers in MESA
DISCUSSION: Results suggest differing associations for lobar versus deep locations. Sensitive microbleed quantification will facilitate future longitudinal studies of their potential role as an early indicator of vascular pathology.PMID:37289978 | DOI:10.1002/alz.13346

Effect of prior anticoagulation therapy on stroke severity and in-hospital outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke and atrial fibrillation
We aimed to assess the prevalence of prior anticoagulation therapy (warfarin or non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants [NOACs]) among patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and atrial fibrillation (AF) in China and investigate the associations between prior anticoagulation therapy and initial stroke severity and in-hospital outcomes.

Predictors of participation in atrial fibrillation screening among community residents in China
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia and affects 33.5 to 46.3 million people worldwide.1,2 China faces a similar challenge of AF burden. According to a national epidemiology study, at least 790 million adults aged 45 or older have been diagnosed with AF in China.3 An increase in the incidence and prevalence of AF is expected due to population aging, surging cardiovascular risk factors, and accumulating comorbidities (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, obesity).4 AF could increase the risk of stroke, and at least a quarter of ischemic stroke cases are caused by AF.

A New Study Shows How Seriously Air Pollution Can Affect Your Heartbeat
For China’s 1.4 billion people, the simple act of breathing has long been something of a risk. Living in the ninth-dirtiest country in the world in terms of air quality, China’s residents lose an average of 2.6 years of life per capita due to atmospheric pollution alone. The greatest risk, of course, is pulmonary, with air pollution leading to shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, asthma episodes, and chest pain. But pollution affects the heart too; the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reports that exposure to fine-particulate matter as well as to nitrogen oxides alone can lead to premature aging in bloo...

Increased Serum EphrinA1 Is Associated With Parenchymal Hematoma (PH) After Ischemic Stroke
Conclusion Higher serum EphrinA1 is independently associated with higher risk of PH after ischemic stroke. Future studies with larger sa mple size are needed to validate our findings and elucidate the potential role of EphrinA1 in PH.
