Effect of extended duration of thromboprophylaxis for medically ill patients
CONCLUSIONS: Extended thromboprophylaxis, especially with LMWH, showed better efficacy in venous thromboembolism reduction with increased risk of major bleeding. The beneficial effect of LMWH with extended timing has also been shown in stroke patients. Overall, extended thromboprophylaxis is associated with a positive net clinical benefit.PMID:37029050 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2023.03.032

The SARS-CoV-2 responsible for phlegmasia cerulea dolens: a case report
CONCLUSION: Although the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 remains a thrombogenic pathology, systematic anticoagulation is the subject of hypothesis. Hence the importance of regular monitoring of markers of vascular thrombosis.PMID:37008170 | PMC:PMC10060091 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000152

Lateral medullary syndrome: uncommon form of brainstem stroke
CONCLUSION: LMS is a rare form of brainstem stroke and carries a favorable prognosis if early hospitalization and treatment is applied. Brain MRI, including diffusion sequence, is the most useful diagnostic tool for detecting LMS.PMID:36923779 | PMC:PMC10010825 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000260

Left Atrial Mechanical Dysfunction and the Risk for Ischemic Stroke in People Without Prevalent Atrial Fibrillation or Stroke : A Prospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: In people without prior AF or stroke, when added to CHA2DS2-VASc variables, left atrial reservoir strain improves stroke prediction and yields a predicted net benefit, as shown by decision curve analysis.PRIMARY FUNDING SOURCE: National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health.PMID:36534978 | DOI:10.7326/M22-1638

'Dense Inverted Triangle Sign' in Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
Intern Med. 2022 Nov 30. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.0764-22. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe early diagnosis of cerebral venous thrombosis in the emergency department is challenging. A 70-year-old man presented to the emergency department after falling with new-onset convulsions. Brain unenhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed right frontal hemorrhage indicative of traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Brain unenhanced CT on day 2 revealed increased density in the anterior superior sagittal sinus (SSS), namely 'dense inverted triangle sign.' Brain magnetic resonance venography showed a filling defect in the ante...
