The value of Stanford integrated psychosocial assessment for transplantation (SIPAT) in prediction of clinical outcomes following left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation
ConclusionIn this single-center retrospective study, SIPAT did not predict cumulative re-admissions. Further study is required to validate SIPAT before clinical implementation.

Predictors and prognosis of left ventricular thrombus in post-myocardial infarction patients with left ventricular dysfunction after percutaneous coronary intervention.
Conclusions: This study indicated that the presence of left ventricular aneurysm, incomplete revascularization, higher SYNTAX score and D-dimer level were the independent predictors of LVT formation in post-MI and LV dysfunction patients, which related to worse clinical outcomes. Future studies for early intervention and complete revascularization in high-risk subgroup patients are expected. PMID: 30233865 [PubMed]

Non-Contrast Chest CT Scans In Detection Of Pulmonary Thromboembolism
Conclusion: Non-contrast chest CT scans have good role in evaluation of PE through detection the hyperdense lumen sign that is a good indicator of acute pulmonary thromboembolism particularly in cases involving the central pulmonary arteries or peripheral wedge shaped opacity as useful indirect sign.

The prognostic value of Red cell distribution width(RDW) in acute pulmonary thromboembolism
Conclusion: High RDW level is associated with higher 30 and 90 days mortality rate in acute PT patients. This marker could be considered as a valuable prognostic factor in acute PE.

Direct acting oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in critically ill patients.
Abstract The direct acting oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have been increasingly utilized over vitamin K antagonists (VKA) in recent years because they do not require monitoring and have an immediate anti-coagulation effect. In general, DOACs have shown a better safety profile and non-inferiority for venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis and treatment, and stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation, when compared to VKA agents in the non-ICU population. Hypercoagulation as the main cause of death in COPD
Conclusion: In the literature there are many data on the main causes of death for patients with COPD, such as respiratory failure, lung cancer, pulmonary thromboembolism, but due to the high comorbidity of COPD with cardiovascular pathology, and the mechanism of mutual complications of these nosologies, according to our research, today the main causes of death for patients with COPD are cardiovascular accidents caused by hypercoagulation.

Bronchoscopic delivery of aminocaproic acid as a treatment for pulmonary bleeding: A case series
ConclusionsEndobronchial administration of ε-aminocaproic acid during bronchoscopy may be a safe and efficacious option in the treatment and prevention of pulmonary bleeding. Further studies are necessary to better define ε-aminocaproic acid's safety profile, optimal routes of administration, and comparative effectiveness to tranexamic acid.

Increased platelet activation in sleep apnea subjects with intermittent hypoxemia
ConclusionsIncreased platelet activation was present in otherwise healthy subjects with intermittent nocturnal hypoxemia due to underlying OSA. Controversies over the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on patients with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension
This study is a retrospective analysis of our PAH patients treated in 2020 compared to the dynamics of the last 12 years. We had 48 PAH patients, 51.72±16.64 years, 72.91% female. All patients had chronic anticoagulant therapy(58.33%) and/or antiplatelet; 33.33% had long term oxygen therapy. Three patients with secondary forms were confirmed with COVID-19, all hospitalized (6.25% infection rate versus 3.29% in general).
