Imaging criteria to predict Shamblin group in carotid body tumors - revisited
CONCLUSION: The simple scoring system we have proposed correlates well with the Shamblin grade and helps in identifying patients who have a higher risk of developing complications.PMID:33769292 | DOI:10.5152/dir.2021.20028

Ipsilateral Vocal Cord Paralysis After Acute Anterior Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: Our case is a rare case of transient ipsilateral vocal cord paralysis associated with anterior unilateral cerebral ischemia. The paralysis resolved with improvement of the cerebral ischemic penumbra.PMID:33635769 | DOI:10.7812/TPP/20.104

Anticoagulant management by low-dose of low molecular weight heparin in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation following hemorrhagic transformation and complicated with venous thrombosis: Five case reports and literature review
For patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) following hemorrhagic infarction (HI)/hemorrhage transformation (HT) and complicated with venous thrombosis, the management of anticoagulation is controversial. Our study intends to explore the safety and effectiveness of using low-dose of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) to treat NVAF patients with HI (or HT) and complicated with venous thrombosis. Between January 2018 and January 2019, NVAF related acute ischemic stroke patients with HT/HI, hospitalized in the department of neurology or rehabilitation in our hospital, are enrolled retrospectively. Among them,...

Applications of intraoperative Duplex ultrasound in vascular surgery: a systematic review
ConclusionsIODUS can be used to detect defects in both CEA and LEB procedures. However, there is a need for more robust prospective studies to determine the best scanning strategy, criteria for intervention and the impact on clinical outcomes.

Left ventricular thrombus after ST segment elevation myocardial infarction: a single-centre observational study.
CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of LV thrombus following STEMI was low and it was associated with a low rate of stroke and systemic embolism but high mortality. Randomised studies are needed to evaluate the efficacy of NOAC's in this context. PMID: 33332339 [PubMed - in process]

High Prevalence of Deep Venous Thrombosis in Non-Severe COVID-19 Patients Hospitalized for a Neurovascular Disease
Conclusion: Despite thromboprophylaxis, systematic bedside DUS showed a high prevalence (38.5%) of asymptomatic DVT in non-severe COVID-19 patients suffering from a neurovascular disease. In the absence of a reliable marker of DVT, we suggest that this non-invasive investigation could be an interesting tool to monitor peripheral venous thrombotic complications in such patients.Cerebrovasc Dis Extra 2020;10:174 –180

Left ventricle cardiac myxoma as a cause of ischaemic stroke in young patient treated by mechanical thrombectomy.
We present a case of a young 21-year-old woman with no symptoms of dyspnoea who suddenly developed expressive aphasia and right-sided hemiparesis due to a thrombus in the left middle cerebral artery followed by the left anterior cerebral artery. She underwent acute mechanical thrombectomy with improvement of the neurological status. Bedside ultrasonography detected a suspected myxoma, which was further confirmed by a CT scan as a myxoma in the left cardiac ventricle. The patient underwent successful surgery. We stress on the importance of echocardiographic examination in young patients after ischaemic stroke and multidisci...

Assessment of Patients with Intracerebral Hemorrhage or Hemorrhagic Transformation in the VENOST Study
Conclusion: CVST, an important cause of stroke in the young, should be monitored closely if the patients have additional symptoms of headache, multiple sinus involvement, and CH. Older age and parenchymal lesion, either hemorrhagic infarction or intracerebral hemorrhage, imply poor outcome.Eur Neurol

Utility of Hounsfield unit in the diagnosis of tandem occlusion in acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionDespite a significant difference in thrombus attenuation in MCA occlusions with an additional extracranial ICA occlusion compared with isolated MCA occlusions, a relevant threshold of thrombus attenuation was not found.

Association of blood viscosity with first-pass reperfusion in mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated DBV was associated with FPR failure. Patients with high DBV had longer thrombus length and required more stent passages than patients with low DBV. PMID: 33074222 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Left Atrial Appendage Closure in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation at Very High Bleeding Risk Without Postimplantation Antithrombotic Therapy.
CONCLUSIONS: In highly selected patients at very HBR, discontinuation of any antithrombotic therapy after LAAC appears safe and feasible. PMID: 32999093 [PubMed - in process]
